Would you go on a whale watching boat tour at 18 weeks?

Help?

I’ve never done a whale watching tour nor do I know anyone who has so I really have no idea how rough the waters get on those! I was reading FAQs and some tours said it’s a perfectly comfortable and safe ride for pregnant women, others said pregnant women should not go on the tours. Anybody with any experience here? 🐋

(If it makes a difference, this would be in Seattle)

It should be totally safe, my only concern would be potentially getting seasick. I spent a lot of time on boats during my babymoon from 24-26 weeks, and felt great the whole time except once when our boat went into choppier waters and was really moving a lot. Nobody else was bothered by it but I started feeling pretty horrible and did end up vomiting. But then a week later I was on another boat where they even warned us about the rough water potentially causing seasickness, and there were a couple other people puking but I felt totally fine! So there’s no way to tell for sure ahead of time, but as you’re not generally prone to seasickness and don’t have a ton of anxiety about throwing up I think it’s worth it to go. I would bring a barf bag for just in case, but you’ll probably feel totally fine. Whale watches are great, enjoy!

I did one at about 17 weeks off the coast of Maine in the fall. The biggest issue was sun exposure. I say go and have fun!

😮 So cool! It didn’t feel like a super rocky ride?

Nope! It was pretty calm overall. I might avoid it on a rough day but I’d probably avoid that even if I weren’t pregnant.

I did so when I was about 16 weeks. I had really bad nausea/vomiting with my first pregnancy so I made sure to have my zofran plus whatever else to help my nausea. It was fun!

I would but I live on a lake and go on boats all the time. If you’re prone to motion sickness, I would sit this one out. If not, go and enjoy! If you’re not sure about the motion sickness thing, keep an eye on the horizon! Don’t go anywhere on the boat where you can’t see the horizon. That’s what will throw you off balance and make you sick. It’s hard to shake off once it starts. I hope you’re able to go and have an awesome time! Such a cool experience!
