Music recommendations for Violin + Guitar dinner background gig

Repertoire questions

Hey yall, a buddy and I have been asked to play background music at a dinner.

Normally, if it were just me, I'd spring for some $10 popular song book and just play it gently in the background, easy peasy.

That said, my buddy plays guitar and I'm not sure how to apply my easy song book approach to that.

Do you have any recommendations for music books or resources or just general advice for violin + guitar duets for background music at a gig?

We're both pretty good, but I don't think the point of this engagement is to be good. I think it's just to play easy, nice songs that people recognize. I'm grateful for any feedback or advice, thank you.

Look for “leadsheets”. Melody line on a staff with chords on top. “Fake Book” or “Real Book” are often in this format.

I´m currently playing with a guitarist and find Paganini´s Centone di Sonate OP 64 for violin and guitar very charming (and easy to play) - here´s a youtube recording of the 1st sonata (there are 6) in a-minor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqYHo18C5rE
