Battle of Flowers - worth going? what even is it?
Hello! I've been in SA a couple of years now but keep missing out on Battle of the Flowers. I don't really get what this is other than a big parade (maybe that's all it is?). I have a few questions...
- Good to take kids to?
- Do you need to buy bleacher seats?
- Is it just a parade? My kid is coming home telling me there's a carnival or something but i can't seem to find any information online.
- Where to you park for this? Do they provide parking if you buy a seat?
- Is it just hype? Is it worth going?
- Anything else you feel is important to know?
Thank you for the info!!!

It’s the best fiesta event to take kids to
Bleachers are nice, but there are also sections of chairs you can purchase day of just pick a section. Guesstimate of $10/ chair, no kid or adult separate prices. Buying these is far superior to walking half the route lugging your own chairs hoping for a spot.
Carnival is at market square. It’s a carnival. If you like such things go early before the drinkers start arriving.
Park ‘n Ride with Via or get a taxi/ride share. Finding snd walking to parking downtown during fiesta can take all the fun out of it. Via is dedicated busses, get on at the place you park your car, get off downtown. Return trip is part of the ticket and they run every 30 minutes or so.
I think it’s a nice introduction to all the different people and cultures that make up San Antonio. Did you know we have a Buffalo Soldiers reenactment group here? They participate every year. The Charros are amazing! If you are near a corner where the parade tends to pause you’ll see some great rope and horse tricks. The fiesta queens gowns are a.maze.ing. If you have a daughter she will not stop talking about the dresses snd trains for weeks.
Wear sunscreen, pee before you go, bring cash for street vendors if you are inclined to buy trinkets for the kiddos, the food is amazing, bring water.
The carnival hasn't been at market square for ages, it's at the Alamodome.
Well thst tells you of my desire to attend carnivals :D
Thank you for the details!!
I think King William Fair is maybe a little better but yeah.
