It sounds like abuse irrespective of religious affiliation.

It sounds like the kind of abuse that frequently accompanies religious affiliation. That said, it's not LDS specific enough to be posted here in my opinion

It's sounds like all patriarchal religions to me. Muslims, evangelicals, JWs, Mormons, they all have these kinds of problems.

This has nothing to do with our church or anyone else's. Why the mods don't remove it is beyond me.

Patriarchal religious groups are breeding grounds for patriarchal values, and thus, abuses

It's wonderful that your experience with the church hasn't included misogyny, but that's just you, the whole reason the Ordain Women movement exists is because plenty of women in the church see the inequality and misogyny and want to eliminate it. While the prophet did recently condemn behavior like this and while you can point to talks through out history that encourage equality, you can also find plenty of pieces of doctrine that encourage attitudes similar to what's in this video. The temple, until recently, had women covenanting to obey their husbands as they obey god, and before that it was to just obey their husbands, both of these can lead men to believe they are in charge of their wife and that their wife needs to do what they say. Talking about this video and how some men in the church have this same attitude is the only thing that will move the church past the patriarchy and misogyny. Taking the post down because it makes us uncomfortable is the wrong way to fix the problem.

I don't think I explained it very well. I'm not saying we should take the post down because it's uncomfortable, rather because it's unrelated to Mormons in any way and doesn't really make sense posted here.

All the things you mentioned, however, are good topics for this sub though! in my opinion

I understood that, I'm saying I think it is related because of the church's history with misogyny and patriarchy and the video is a display of the kind of behavior that the church's teachings can and have produced.

This is the kind of thing President Nelson talked about last conference. He condemned it.

Source, care to explain?

This guy is a pile of shit. This isn't a Mormon issue. It's a stretch to try to make it one.

Very frustrating honestly to see this posted on this subreddit. Mods should remove something so obviously unrelated.

The title specifically relates the video to the Church through a question. You obviously don't think that is enough of a connection to give it place here. Can you elaborate on why?

My thinking is that the content has nothing related to the church, so asking "does this remind you of the church?" isn't really enough of a "connection" to make it an appropriate post for this sub. That being said it doesn't really matter I guess.

That's a good point. It does seem to be just about the barest connection to Mormonism possible. Thank you for sharing your view, interactions like this are always relevant when the mod team discusses the rules.

The dude has problems and does not recognize what an ass he is being toward his companion. Blaming church or others for personal issues is to simply not recognize ones own selfishness, pride and codependency issues. Both are being somewhat manipulative and unhelpful toward a healthy and uplifting verbal interaction but it’s his responsibility to be honorable yet he acts like a child.

Why are you posting this here? This has nothing to do with the church. As much as you'd like it to be true, not every jerk in the world can be compared with Mormon culture or whatever this is trying to do.
