Is it just me or has the sneaker game been weak lately?

Discussion

A lot of the new releases have the strangest color ways and designs. I’m not excited about them at all. Nothing compared to 5 yrs ago. Anyone else feel this way?

Naaaa... there's a shitload of cool shoes out there.

I had to take a break because I was buying too many shoes lol

Now, if you are talking about hype, on the other hand... you should also consider that you are 5 years older and 5 longer in the sneakers game now.

For many of the really nice releases you have no chance of getting for retail. It has definitely hurt my enthusiasm

Gunna have to disagree. If you are only into hypebeast shit then sure. But there have been lots of great shoes released this year alone! Personally I hope this trend continues & weeds out all the clot chasers & resell shitheads.

There are plenty solid sneakers that are released this year, but yes, I feel a lot less excited with the current release. People said it's because of saturation. I need to get away from this a bit, but I don't want to miss out... so I ended up... still here.

Nothing strong about peak Yeezy hype and kids frothing over J1 retros.

Think you're missing a 1 before that 5.

I get what your saying but I feel they just over saturated the market with the same shoes just different colors. For Jordan’s unless it’s an OG color way most people don’t want it. Then if it is it’s damn near impossible to get. For instance the UNC black toe coming out. It’s one of the few I want this year but I’m sure I’ll take the L. At this point I’m just like fuck it. For OG sneaker-heads the game is ruined. There’s no longer excitement for releases cus most of us don’t stand a chance.

There's plenty of great shoes, there's just less hype, resell and it's not as mainstream as it was in 2020

I agree, other than OG colorways that fly off the shelves, the other shoes aren’t as good. You’re right, now I’m counting back the years it used to be I was buying a new pair almost every week about 4/5 years ago.

Complete opposite.

I agree partially cuz there are some sick kicks I see dropping (retros retroing) but as for new colours most are wack I don’t buy new Jordan’s anymore (some exceptions I may make idk) I just to go grailed and buy older classic pairs in decent condition as for other brands like new balance I’ll wear their new and “weird” colours cuz it works really well with their silhouettes but Jordan’s I’ll stick to the classics

I agree but only because drops this year have been mostly neutral or earth colors. I love bright color shoes, like my Gatorades or ambush dunk highs. The bright shoes that have dropped this year, like the RTJ dunks, I haven’t really liked. Now I am a whore for anything with a large amount of elephant print so I def got the Jordan 1s that just dropped, but overall it’s been a boring year imo

I’ve been having fun recently with sneakers but I get burnt out every couple of years and everything seems “boring”.

Maybe this is what’s happening for you?

I get it...sometimes this happens...BUT What are YOU...YOU...YOURSELF looking for?...try a different brand for a lil bit...until NIKE catches up with your mindset...OR...OR...play catch up...and start looking for sneakers you missed out on getting...just to keep your mind occupied...OR anytime you're looking for a sneaker and you can't find anything to your liking...then put that money aside...so when you do find something...you'll have it readily available...SAB

True Blues were the last colorway I liked BUT I just bought my first pair of dunks! The Jarritos really speak to me, I mainly wear J1s and Air Max 90/1.

It’s over. The sneaker game got gentrified. The B2C model got hijacked by resellers and it destroyed what was once a niche hobby.
