Farewells

Poem

Earlier, I overheard two parting souls:

Take care, man!

As if to say

it is in me

you might find some care

to hold you over until we meet again

Yeah, take it easy.

It being life’s blows,

which will swarm you

when we leave this place,

when we are so sadly pulled

from this defense we find in one another,

thrust into the ring of life

where we will not have a branch to hold

nor a tree to climb

Yo, this poem hit me right in the feels. Saying goodbye to someone is never easy, but these two souls got each other's back. They're like, "Take care, man!" and "Take it easy." It's like they know that life's gonna hit them hard once they leave each other's company. But for now, they've got each other's back. They're holding each other down until they meet again. It's a beautiful thing, man. Life can be a real struggle, but it's easier when you've got someone in your corner.

Oooooh. I feel like this is the story of a series or something!

This was beautifully written, even if I can't relate as an introvert. From my view, you portrayed what it feels like to be an extrovert who is still trying to find their bearings.

Hi... Well I enjoy how you get into your language. Emphasizing certain words, and kind of diving deeper into them if that makes sense. I think that's original, and I like it. I also "felt" the poem so to speak, I felt certain emotions, which is always a good sign. So congratulations! I personally think your poetry is great!

I think about this quite a bit when I am parting ways with someone and they say this to me. It is almost like we really do not think about these phrases much. But, you’re right OP.

i feel like this poem is so soft yet so overwhelmingly emotional. it kind of conveys the reality behind the words we say out of habit. we often say things like "take care" without wondering how hard it might be for that person to do so when they're alone. great poem, op :)

really enjoyed it. so many ways you can take it, but the glue of it all is the juxtaposition of those casual phrases that can suggest so much, or not.

To me, i immediately go to me placing overimportance on the friend, being anxious alone, finding my way, having to wade through life.

and then "where we will not have a branch to hold" -- it's brilliant, maybe you are each other's branch. maybe they are just mine.

"nor a tree to climb" - nothing fun to do now. Or, I can't progress in life without you, alone again. I'm overreacting, but that's how it feels.

Anyway, its all very suggestive, very light and easy to read, then just ideas fill your head from it. i loved it :)

“Take care man” and “take it easy” contains much more emotion than at just first glance. It puts the image of two friends who don’t need to say much but understand everything.

I really love how many topics this poem touches in a single poem , taking the literal meaning of words , and contrasting them with the harsh reality of life

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that.
