Finally found my tool system.

A couple of months back I was building a new office desk, a big old 6-foot by 39-inch butcher block slab that need some champers and round overs and wouldn't you know it, my vintage router done let out the blue smoke.

Now as a home gamer, I have been operating off a 20-year-old RIDGID 12-volt drill/driver and 1/4 inch impact drill along with a mishmash of hand-me-downs and old tools I have repaired after picking up from the side of the road.

Well, I did not have time to fix the old router, and to be honest it was butthole puckering when using it already so I decided to go ahead and do some researched and picked up the DeWALT DCK201P1 router and jigsaw with battery combo.

I figured it had good reviews, and using a trim router to run a 45-degree chamfer on this wood would be one hell of a torture test. Well, it passed with flying colors and barely touched the battery level.

I had been meaning to decide on a tool system for a while and that pretty much settled it.

So as of today, I picked up a pretty awesome deal from Lowe's. 1500 in tools for 600 bucks with a nice 10% military discount. https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT/5013607869

I would have preferred the DCD800 instead of the DCD805 just for the slightly smaller size and weight, but I also have some work to do in my garage hanging shelves, and it is all cinder block and concrete so the hammer drill will come in might handy.

Now just add in a 4-inch grinder and ratchet and I am looking good. Oh, and a vacuum, and a cut-off wheel, and and and...

I'm gonna need another job.

Thanks for helping this lurker, looking forward to hanging out here much more now.

Any tips, tricks, discounts, or "in the know" items I should know about, please feel free to shoot them my way.

That is a hell of a deal. I would probably pick up another set of batteries for that amount of tools though. 2 pack of 5ah batteries is around $140 on amazon

And they do a lot of variety kits with free tools. Good way to get both

Thats my intent, find a good combo deal for a battery or two and a tool I need to round me out and I am good to go.

I've picked up a couple like that. Jigsaw, oscillator. Don't have one of the routers yet but it's on the list

That router is a freaking little beast!

I believe I saw Lowe's doing the powerstack starter kit with a free tool. One of them being the angle grinder

That is the plan.

I've heard mixed things on their vacuums. Not sure any of them are very good from what I've heard. I'd like one... Haven't decided on one to settle on though

My handheld shark is still going strong for portable and for my workshop the shopvac handles it well.

I have their 2 gallon cordless shop vac (DCV581H) and it is the handiest tool that I own. Doing maintenance then it is invaluable, doing everything from vacuuming up drywall, being a bucket for leaks, vacuuming out sinks, and being a vacuum/decent blower for refrigerator coils. I would 10/10 recommend the vacuum, you won't look back.

That's a hell of a deal you got. The 805 is a great all round drill. Tons of power in a stout compact form. While the 800 is smaller the 805 will do you will as you have no SDS drill. It looks like you know what tools will be next, grinder, jigsaw are the obvious two, after that your just spoiling yourself. Get a few more batteries and you'll have more then enough to put in a full days work. Congrats and welcome to the fam

Yeah, I am actually OK with the 805, the hammer drill will come in handy in my all-concrete garage.

Batteries and a grinder are my main next item, and a vanity item for working on my truck is the ratchet, just makes it easier.

An SDS drill is the best investment you could make, they are so much better than hammer drills for concrete there is no comparison. Even the cheapest Walmart? offering will run rings aound dewalts top of the line traditional hammer drill
