The attack on the Mazics was intended to fail

TIME FOR SOME OLEK-LEVEL CONSPIRACY THEORY WRITING

Imagine you're the Kolshians, slimy tentacles and all. The war has kicked off between you and the humans, but the there's a problem: Your public military has a moral compass. If the public military interacts with the shadow military, they may start defecting to the humans, spilling Kolshian secrets in the process. You need to get rid of them, but how? If you just have them to sit out on the sidelines people are going to wonder why. Also, you can't disappear, arrest, or diagnose Predator Disease on 6,000 ships worth of troops without the public seriously questioning your excuses. (They're dumb, but not that dumb.) There's only one other solution left: Get them killed in combat.

The plan is to send your public fleet out to glass the Mazic homeworld. If they win, that's one less species to fight. If they lose, you can finally bring out the shadow fleet. Fight happens, but then the unthinkable happens. The humans freaking let a remnant of the public fleet go just so they could save a few hundred million Mazic lives. This is bad. Now not only is the public fleet still around, but now they're back home spreading around stories about how the humans can be bargained with.

You need another way to kill them. The shadow fleet is raring to go and the public fleet is still kicking. Things look bad until you remember that you have another offensive coming up to establish a jumping off point to attack Earth. Why not send them all to go attack every allied world at once? They'd be dead and you get valuable information about each world's defenses.

Time to break the news to the public fleet. You gather them somewhere away from prying eyes and tell them a lie that if they attack all the planets at once, they will be able to break through and do some damage. Some of the troops are resistant to this plan, but you just threaten them with treason. They go off and they die, getting you the data you care about in the process. The few ships that return from the probing attack are destroyed privately by the secret fleet.

The public fleet is now gone. It's now time for the shadow fleet to crank this war up to 11.

Thank you for reading this. It was fun to write.

Considering all the predator vs prey crap and genetic manipulation the feds have done, this seems less like a conspiracy theory and more like a probable outcome. Seriously, this would be the tamest thing they've done on a scale of conspiracies.

On the level of government-sized “players” in the game of life, “conspiracy theories” is just another name for “potential strategies”.

Now this is a conspiracy theory I can get behind

I thought the Shadow Fleet was the one that got sent to attack all the allied worlds

27
Golde829•

the shadow fleet is the ones with geometric drones and presumably proper fighters that's being fought over the Dossur homeworld

at least, according to this theory
which is incredibly plausible, because every "probing attack" was beaten back to some degree, if not outright destroyed

19
Randox_Talore•

I thought the shadow fleet was characterized by being unrecognizable compared to other Fed ships. And all those probing attacks were comprised of “Unknown” ships

7
Golde829•

maybe the probing attacks were like
the public-level emergency ships that were never used until then
(public-level as in not the super-secret like the drones)

iirc, the probing fleets were all either wiped or beaten back and basically limped away

Wait, the Mazics were attacked? when was this?

Dangit, I forgot all about that.

I'm once again kindly reminding everyone that there is no "secret Kolshian fleet". Sovlin sees tens of thousands of ships when chilling on Aafa after the revelation.

There is no secret Kolshian fleet, there’s a secret Kolshian fleet.

…I’m not certain if that makes any sense, but hopefully that clarifies some things for you.

Stands up and points a talon towards you

…I call myself predator, not because I am a predator, but because I am not prey.

I think the first part can be correct but I have two issues with the second.

The ships that did the probing attacks were unidentified at the time.If they were the public fleet everyone would have recognized them.

And the ships were all willing to sacrifice themselves despite only having around 200 ships per attack, everyone would know the odds are impossible. No fearful captain fled, /defected or surrendered. Just did their job like robots and just like the soldiers we've seen in the shadow fleet.

That makes me think that the probing attacks were done using the shadow fleet. If you are correct the public fleet is probably still around albeit sidelined. And might be brought back up if there is ever a plot point for defectors.

Kinda like at the end of WW2 some units from the wehemacht would join the local resistances and fight against the SS.

That's a really good point.

Coming back to this now this would explain all the random probing attacks leading up to the battle of mileau going nowhere.
