Question about updating maps on Fenix 7

[Q&A]

When I purchased my Fenix 7 it came without maps, so I plugged it overnight and left it downloading the maps with WiFi. From time to time I have been checking if an update was available by going into the maps admin on the watch, but this never showed one. So recently I installed Garmin Express on my computer and it said that map updates where available. Unfortunately the whole European map no longer fits in the available space (!). I had to delete the whole map and then download only the Western Europe region. This worked fine however the map admin on the watch says that there's still an update for my European map but that I need some 850 MB os space to download it, even though Garmin Express says that maps are up to date. Which is right?

Hmm I had the same experience as yours. But after updating all maps using Express, both Express and Map manager showed my maps are up-to-date.

Use Garmin Express and if it all goes wrong, remove all the maps using express, unplug the watch so it updates/uses the maps then plug in again and add the maps you need.

Garmin doesn't do a good job of saying that if the maps change, Express will only recognize that if the device has been unplugged and the device takes the new maps into use.

I am trying again with the built in map manager, I deleted the map with Express and it's now downloading from scratch. Tomorrow I shall see hownitn went.

Same for me, I installed Topo Active Europe ( version 2022.11) with Garmin Express but if I enter in Map Manager on the watch it says that there is and update available (and can't update because additional 11.8 Gb needed). I just leave it like that, the maps are working fine.

if you click "Check for updates" in the map manager on your watch, the information "Update available" should disappear because the watch does not update the map status even if you have synced with Garmin Express. Hope this helps!

I have finally fixed this. I had to unplug the watch, go to map manager and remove from the queue any map that was there queued. Then plug again, go to map manager and remove European map. Then download with Map Manager. No Garmin Express needed. And I could download the whole European map. But version 2022.11 there doesn't seem to be a newer one.
