14 TB Seagate Exos in Dell Precision 7820

Discussion

Does anyone know if these extra-thick 3.5” 14 TB Exos HDDs will fit into the drive bays of the Dell Precision 7820? I haven’t had any luck trying to find my answer using Google, so I’m hoping that someone here has hands-on experience with this configuration.

drive bays are a standard height.

It's just some drives have a lower profile rather than the 14TB drive being extra high.

Right, so nobody would knowingly manufacture a drive that wouldn’t fit in a standard drive bay.

To add some more context, I’m looking to replace my current unRAID server - which currently runs on my old gaming PC - with something that has some oomph, or at least more cores. I kind of settled on the Dell Precision 7820 due to its pricing, two-CPU compatibility, and it’s relatively attractive chassis. However, I’m concerned that these drives I have won’t physically fit into the bays.

Should I just opt to buy a standalone NAS as an unRAID replacement, and use a different solution entirely for virtualization? Part of the appeal of a decently powered 7820 is that I could consolidate my PiHole-WireGuard, Intel NUC vCenter and all its guests, and my Plex server on my old PC on to one machine.

I think I have the same Exos drives you are referring to. They fit fine. You can confirm with the photo from my post.
