I made my own replacement for the keypad and removed them. Simple LED using first pair of wires and buzzer with the second. Mounted those to blank outlet covers with a hole drilled in the front. I can send pics tomorrow. So each door has an alert/reminder that it’s armed and buzzer as a door chime.
Interesting. Yes share some pics pls!
Blank faceplate, 1/4” hole drilled in the middle. LED and buzzers from Amazon. Lots of choices, cheapest is variety of colors which I didn’t mind. One pair to power LEDS and second pair connects to the buzzer that I just attached to the back. Setup automation in SmartThings so that when alarm is armed LEDs get powered on. They won’t stay on, so second automation for when LEDs turn off and alarm is on, turn LEDs back on. So it just cycles all night. Buzzer alerts with recommended settings per normal to chime when any sensor is triggered; IE door opens.
Repeat for all panels.
Now my next step is to install a ‘hidden’ switch to disable alarm when my wife doesn’t have her phone with her. Though I do have it disable automatically when any of my august locks are opened which handles most doorways.
Lmk if you want links for products I used from Amazon.
Uh, the phone line was most definitely not to sms the owner. The phone line was so that the alarm panel can call the alarm company to tell them something went wrong. From there, the alarm company will either try to contact the owner and/or the police.
This is one of the many reasons why almost every single alarm product only works with a subscription. And considering that LCD screen looks ancient, I'm pretty sure that alarm product is from at least 2 decades ago. Back when you had to use physical wires for each alarm component and there was no such thing as smartphones.
Of course, I could be wrong. All that old stuff gets mixed together in my head.
Yea there's no SMS via landline... well I guess the analog phone line version of a SMS is a fax! lol
I just installed one of these. Actually, my board died and they replaced it. I'm using 10 zones and 1 siren, but I can't seem to figure out if a 30w siren is too much for its power specs.
Get a relay and have the siren on it's own power source but triggered via the output of konnected
Any recommendations for a relay?
I’ve used a raspberry pi kiosk to show homeassistant next to my door. Good way to see cameras as well before I open the door.
Absolutely love the konnected.io platform. It's been fantastic.
Grab a fire tablet or cheaper Samsung and throw home assistant or whatever your smart home platform is.
1st question:
They sell everything you need (minus the tablet) to replace the old alarm panel with any tablet of your choice. Here is the 12V to 5V USB converter to take power from the old panel & make it work for a tablet. And here are the tablet wall mounts that you’ll need to get it attached to the wall.
Second question:
Yes
EDIT: I see you have a battery backup in there as well, so you may want this
This is great feedback. Thank you!
Happy to help!
You can use a Fire tablet with the actiontiles that connects to a google smart thing. Look at the Konnext pro.
Checking this, thanks!!
As I'm using Alexaim considering getting the Echo Show (https://amzn.asia/d/5Du1wD0). It's more than I want to spendbut its also probably the least finicky to set upand should integrate easily with Ring set up and all the other smart automation I have running.
Gotta love when technology blends seamlessly into our homes and becomes just another part of the furniture!
I know it's not Konnected.io, but here's another option for those reading through.
I use an ElkM1 Gold system. You can attach traditional keypads using existing wiring, has pretty good support, and native Home Assistant integration. Yes, it's pretty old school. But it works for those who want a more traditional looking setup for spouse approval factor.
Looks like my to-do list just got longer! Thanks, Konnected.io!
Update: the wires didn't add up, so I had a closer look at the motion sensors... Turns out they are wireless...
In regards to the phone line. You can unplug it. It won’t cause any problems. If you still use a landline, just check there’s a dial tone when you unplug it. You could even plug a phone into the line and see if it has a dial tone. It may have been a separate line disconnected when they moved out.
When you open the panel, do you hear the panel making a click noise? The tamper should alarm and dial out if it is still programmed to do so. The clicking would be the dialler working. If you unplug it while still using the Bosch and it’s supposed to dial out, you may get a trouble alarm because it has failed to do so.
I didn't hear it dialing, but with the power on, when I open the panel the alarm siren goes off.
You wouldn’t physically hear it dial. But there’s a relay that triggers the dialler. It’s usually a reasonably loud click. The sirens triggering is just due to the tamper switch being activated.
I’m assuming you probably won’t have the installer code to allow you to open the panel without the siren triggering.
Never used or heard of a konnected.io so not sure how they work, but are they a replacement for your existing panel? As in they use your existing hardwired sensors connected to the new panel? By the looks of that panel all of your sensors are wireless and therefore won’t be compatible as they are designed for the Bosch via rf3212e receiver?
https://konnected.io/ connects to wired sensors in your home, and claims to make every wired sensor in your home smart.
My house is wired up with half a dozen motion sensors, a d a siren.
I already use a few smart automation apps (smart carport roof, lights, ventilators, fans, and blinds) and have been staring at the motion sensors around the house wondering if I can get any use out of them.
Oh wow... ! I couldn't figure out the wire count, so just had a closer look at the sensors. * They ARE wireless, with 2 fat lithium batteries inside...
Looks like my boring light switches just got jealous!
I just did this with our ancient system. I replaced the keypads with Ring Alarm Keypads v2 which connected to my Home Assistant server via Zwave and stay in sync with the Alarmo custom integration using this Blueprint. It all works great and was much easier than expected to switch over.
Now, one thing that seems really different for your system than mine is that it appears that all of your sensors are wireless, and the only thing connected to the alarm panel is the RF Receiver (connected to the "input" terminal, to the left of ZN1). My system was old enough that all of my sensors were hardwired to the panel, so moving them to Konnected was easy. I don't know if Konnected will work with your existing alarm system RF wireless sensors. I would check with the Konnected support staff to be sure.
You may need to replace the sensors with Home Assistant compatible door/window/motion sensors, but you could still use Konnected to manage the siren?
Thanks for the detailed reply. I haven't dived into the wiring yet, but all the motion sensors are definitely wired. I have 7 of them sprinkled around the house.
I'm looking into the Ring key pads - thanks. I use Ring alreadyso that might fit in nicely.
If you do have a land line unplug that cable to the panel and make sure the phones still work. The terminals marked Telco In / Out are used so that the land line is intercepted when the alarm blows, then the line is disconnected from all the internal phones so a burglar can't interfere with the system dialing out to the monitoring service. Obviously from the pic those terminals aren't being used but it's possible the single line coming into the panel is set up that way internally. The click you hear when it blows is probably the internal relay on the board that disconnects the phones in the house when needed.
Good insight, will check that for sure. TY
Thank you for your feedback!
Any tablet, or are there particular ones that work best if all you want it to do is have the Smart Home app open (all the time).
What about power requirements? I haven't pulled the old console off the wall, but I'm not sure if it's hooked up to 240V.
Even Amazon fire tablets can handle it but do some reading here (fully kiosk etc)
I used the in wall alarm panel power to a converter that goes from that to USB. Worked absolutely perfectly.
OP, here’s a converter: https://konnected.io/products/12v-to-5v-usb-power-converter
