Real shit right there, should be center panel he always has one nowadays

Aldoro69765•

I have some additional fields:

  • Federation involved in a secret war against something worse than the Arxur (that's where the shadow fleets come from)

  • Kolshians/Farsul actually mind-controlled by insectoid parasites

  • People "dying" in PD facilities aren't actually dead but taken off-world to be processed somewhere else (did someone say Strogg medical facility?)

  • The Great Protector/Inatala/etc faith is an elaborate summoning ritual for something

65
Apogee-500Yotul•

What about the Kolshians are just the larvae form of some sort of ocean super predator. They grow up on land but when adult go to the ocean. And the larvae protect their elders

39
Aldoro69765•

Inb4 the Kolshians are the Deep Ones and they actually worship Dagon.

22
gamereiker•

Inatala being a real entity is what scares me the most.

26
AFoxGuyPredator•

Imagine if Inatala showed up and was like “oh fuck this bullshit I’m out.”

18
Aldoro69765•

"No no no! That's not what this passage is supposed to mean, at all! How the fuck did you get 'burn them all alive' from 'provide them with warmth and a guiding light to lead them towards the right path'?!"

"Clearly the right path for predators is into an ash box and therefor we have adhered to your teachings"

<laugh> If that came to pass, I'd imagine several Human reigious figures would look over at her and wryly ask "First time?"

This made my arm hairs raise up, congrats

You're welcome. :D

One nitpick: all plants are sentient as they have sensory "organs" to perceive their surroundings (like temperature and intensity and direction of light), but they're not sapient. At least as far as we can tell.

61
Eager_Question•

"perceive" is being really generous there.

They have ways to react to stimulus. We have no evidence they "perceive" anything. They don't have a nervous system.

27
JustWanderingIn•

Single-cell organisms don't have nervous systems either, yet we classify quite a lot of them as belonging to the animal kingdom. They hunt, they have ways to percieve stimuli and react to them and they engage in procreation. Plants may not perceive the world like we do due to a fundamentally different biology, but they have senses of some sort. After all, to react to stimuli you first need to perceive them.

14
OdpeaArxur•

Some do, like kale, we can use it as wiring and send messages through them, it’s very cool actually

11
Eager_Question•

Please guide me to the "kale has a nervous system" information, everything I can find is on kale's effect on the human nervous system when it is eaten.

8
OdpeaArxur•

I was shown it a few years ago by my Greek, science tuition teacher while she was in Japan and I was in England, I don’t even know what the search engine was called, let alone the website

4
LordTvlor•

Doesn't sentience mean emotional capacity? As far as I'm aware, plants do not emote.

We need a "Venlil had horns" space and also a "aliens are cute because of Kolshian/Farsul domestication"

50
Able_Ocelot_927Human•

I'll put "the feds aiding and abetting the Nazis so they would win and then plan to pacify them" on the free space

42
Acceptable_Egg5560•

I hope no server wipe. That would make the arc disappointing.

35
BattleOfTheFightersChief Hunter•

Server wipes are excuses for the author to be lazy. And us loyal consoomers do not like that.

25
Aldoro69765•

I mean, that's exactly what happens IRL if you blunder your data raid.

The enemy has enough time to evaluate your attack and learn your potential targets. And once it becomes apparent that you're going to try and seize control of the station rather than just blow it up, someone will absolutely press the big red button.

And slowboating around blowing up defensive assets one after the other isn't exactly Formula 1 speed. ;)

16
BattleOfTheFightersChief Hunter•

True. But this series is a sci-fi HFY one, which means all aliens are dumb and stupid and incompetent while we can do anything and are cool.

9
sug_madek•

I think about it though. In the context of the story, they have probably never had anyone attack them for server information before. Does the “ big red button” to wipe the hard drives, even exist if they never expect anyone to attack it. For example, Bill Clinton had his lunch codes straight up zeros because nobody believed anyone would try and fuck with the launch codes. The Kardashian aliens probably straight up, never expect to fight over or or have anyone try

This is a wonderful idea. We could take these options and make a whole suite of cards and take bets.

22
sicThanatos•

Slight criticisms and caveats:

Species sent back to stoneage: Could be, but i see no reason for it. The feds don't really have qualms about going full genocide and are rather thorough.

Tilfish children: The Tilfish still lay a bunch of eggs, but they purposefully only fertilize very few. They are an r-select species that overcame the high mortality rates inherent with that, so they have to artificially limit their growth. As a consequence, they are also an example for understandable / non-evil eugenics. (Virt is the chosen one, remember)

Drinking milk: Most of them are mammals, of course they drink milk ;) I'm sure you mean "milk of other species"

Dossur using animal labor: So what? As long as they only use non-sapient prey-species, no one would care. The feds also know the concept of pets, even though that seems not to be all that popular

22
wrrzd•

I think Mammal just means that they look mammalian or are a mammalian analogue. It's possible that lactation is a pretty unique thing.

14
_StaticFromBeyond_OP•

I did mean milk of other species.

As for the Tilfish, prior to first contact they would do around 5 eggs out of the batch of 25 that they had. My suggestion is that the Federation pushed them to only keep 1 or 2 eggs per batch as part of their "uplift". But we really don't know.

We also really don't know how the Federation views using animals for labor. Based on the fact that they're horrified by animal testing and that pets seem to be non-existent, they probably wouldn't have a high opinion of it.

9
b17b20Predator•

Let's replace it with "Tilfish have 25 eggs and 1-2 newborn upon hatching would cannibalise the weaker ones"

8
SnackcakesMcGeeGojid•

I've got one: stampeding isn't a natural fear response; it's trained into other species to keep them reliant on the Kolshians and Farsul for defense.

22
StormydevzHensa•

I think that one's been pretty much proven already

8
SnackcakesMcGeeGojid•

...Dammit, you're right. I just reread 111 and Onso's one-shot. However, I would like to see how Sovlin reacts to confirmation of this.

The "Venlil don't originate on VP" theory actually holds a bit of water if u think about it, because:

Why would the Venlil name their home like that?

If they did come up with the name, then chances are they've been using it for a while, likely before they discovered astronomy. Why would they name their planet "Venlil Prime" when they don't even know that other planets existed? Where would be the sense of calling their home "Us Prime" when they don't even know other places like that existed?

That brings up the alternative - that it's a name an outside power (read: Kolshians) forced on them. But if it was, why specifically insisting that the people on the planet name it as "Themselves Prime". Well we know that the Kolshians like doing a bit of "revenge" during their gentling (for example, Onso touts that the venlil were likely more aggressive before and that's why they specifically were painted as weak and feeble to ensure the venlil don't go back to their old ways) so if the same logic applies here, then that only means one thing - that the venlil were brought off their real homeworld and onto VP, and their planet was named "Venlil Prime" to ensure that noone ever doubts that it wasn't their home in some past.

Anyway, now it's time to take off my tinfoil hat and see what y'all think.

20
_StaticFromBeyond_OP•

Here's something else to add to that theory: "Why does a species that evolved on a planet that's sunny 24/7 see in the dark?". Yeah, there's the dark-side of VP, caves, and storms, but there's still some doubt....

11
whydoesmypissburn•

How the hell did I miss that the venil can see in the dark?

5
Randox_Talore•

Clearly they traded their noses for night vision

3
whydoesmypissburn•

Maybe they had a venlil secondary/tertiary/etc that the feds glassed when they cured them?

Also the duck dicks of the venlil imply that their primitive mating rituals were more than a little rapey.

5
Randox_Talore•

Okay I don’t know what fics you’re reading but sometimes you need to keep canon and popular fanon separate in your head. (FYI: The fics I’ve been reading just have a solid orange “cylinder”. Nothing resembling a duck’s junk)

3
whydoesmypissburn•

Spacepaladin15 said it in a comment.

Apogee-500Yotul•

So I just got a crazy idea. What if the Kolshians are the larva form of an ocean super predator that lives on land and is herbivores until they mature and go to the ocean. But their elders didn’t care about their larva because they produce so many of them and would even cannibalize. So the Koloshian larvae overtime developed their own society and had a war with their elders and defeated them.

Now the Kolshians only allow some of their people to become adults and keep their elders imprisoned

or they gene modded themselves to never return to the ocean and reproduce earlier shorting their lifespan. This could explain why they hate predators so much and view gene modding other species as a help

17
JustAMalcontent•
  • Krakotl are the only founder species that developed FTL travel, the Kolshans and Farsul are only ever had generation ships.
17
Mega_Rayqaza•

I think horns would be more likely than noses for the venlil. Why would the Kolshians take away their noses?

15
jesterra54Human•

Why would the Kolshians take away their noses?

Well, they honestly believe that obligate carnivores starve with a plant diet because they are "too arrogant to sustain themselves with leaves", they might have believed that taking away their noses would reduce their aggression or something

6
StormydevzHensa•

Hm... let's put 62 dead worlds were actually home to primitive omnivore sapients on the free space.

14
Randox_Talore•

Okay what do you mean by “intentionally lowered”.

‘Cause they lay like 20 eggs per clutch. That never stopped. Even when they started keeping only 1-2 eggs out of that whole amount: They’re still laying like 20 eggs at a time. (And we’re given the reasoning they went from keeping 5-6 to 1-2 so I don’t know what you mean by “intentionally” like it would be new info.)

13
_StaticFromBeyond_OP•

I meant that the Feds pushed them from 5-6 down to 1-2 because they didn't want them to outnumber the Kolshians and Farsul. If given a few generations, the Tilfish might've said, "Hey, we outnumber these guys ten-to-one. Why should we bother listening to the Federation on where we can expand, make colonies, and run our lives? If they say no to us, we can just overwhelm them. The future is Tilfish!"

7
un_pogaz•

The Tilfish still has litters of 5 or more, but they have voluntarily decided to breed only 1-2 eggs per clutch (eggs sorted by genetic evaluation). Multiple reasons: catastrophic demographic growth and too high an educational workload for the parents (I'll replace with "Aggressive spatial herbivore genocides in a war without negotiation possible").

It's also highly unlikely that the Venlil had a nose. On the other hand, the fandom is betting on horns.

12
Black_Hole_parallaxPredator•

I imagine that if they used to be predators, the females ate the males as well as all the unfertilized eggs.

7
AFoxGuyPredator•

The nose thing is kinda hilarious to have on the BINGO card though lol.
