That’s why you have to control all aspects of BI in your company. We control all ETL, data warehouse, Cube, data modeling and reporting. I couldn’t imagine it any other way. And we technically aren’t even IT anymore since we got moved to the business side over a year ago.

I get access to all the xlsx files in SharePoint. Lol

At my previous company we moved out of IT to finance which was better overall. But, having been part of IT we had all the internal relationships to make the technical side work.

This made me laugh out loud and wake up my 3 month old. Because I was literally thinking of all the data I still need to cleanse for months to come 😂🫡😭

That's disappointing, to say the least. I wouldn't mind a longer blackout if it made them take us more seriously. That's too bad that less than 10k subreddits joined the blackout though.

Following on from the 'token' protest on 12th June, I fully expected that 'that would be that' and had no idea of what was to come. I didn't imagine anything other than our short show of solidarity would be required.

Following this, watching Reddit leadership move from stubborn, to victim blaming, to gaslighting to outright tech-fascism over the last week or so has been eye-opening to say the least. What started as a small protest against ill thought-out API pricing has escalated into a complete contempt for the very people who made their platform what it is today.

Personally, this is causing a re-think over how many hours are dedicated to this site, moderating this subreddit and generally contributing to the 'hive-mind' and helping people across the world who find getting answers from Google and Chat GPT a little.... inhuman?

Reddit was supposed to be about the human. I totally bought into that and contributed valuable time and effort that could have gone to chargeable work, family and friends or just into some other tech platform that I had a passion for.

Now I see that it is just about the dreams of a few tech-bros that can see nothing but dollar signs floating in front of their eyes, blinding them to what should be self-evident: the money that is likely to come to them was bought with volunteer efforts from people who genuinely believed they were building a community, not a 'product' to be IPO'd.

This would have been forgivable as I don't believe anyone volunteers in this way with some naive imagining that there will ever be payback other than a warm fuzzy feeling that you helped someone today.

So, my suggestion for an interim way forward is that our sub remains open and available. At the same time, I think it would show solidarity to demonstrate for a few weeks exactly what moderators do on this site, thus:

I propose we continue as we are except that all moderation efforts are suspended. The automoderator is disabled and all posts that come to us are allowed through for a while.

You might find that is totally fine and you can live with the changes, it might demonstrate that mods here do a reasonable job keeping your feed clear of clutter and bots. I don't know.

As such, any opinions stated below will be valued. I'm dropping this here at the same time as suggesting same to the mod team. Whatever - nothing will happen until there is consensus in the community as I will not give credence to the disgusting accusation that mods are 'landed gentry' on some sort of power trip.
