Just use the Reddit default app ffs

Unpopular on Reddit

Everyone seems to be losing their shit that Reddit is banning 3rd party apps. Am I the only one who doesn’t give a shit? A lot of subreddits seem to be taking part in this strange boycott, which is hindering user experience. Just use the fucking default Reddit app, it works fine, always has.

I agree., Except for a few minor glitches, the reddit app works fine A lot of people complain about losing ad blockers but it takes a millisecond to scroll past an ad.

I feel the people who complain about this sort of nonsense are the ones who never touch grass anyways.

Yuck_Few•

Well I basically only go to work and back home. So I guess I'm not really touching Grass either

A very vocal 20% of redditors throwing a hissy fit. I don't give a fuck.

The boycott perfectly shows how so many Redditors think. It has accomplished nothing and that will not change. But they still feel emboldened by "doing the right thing." Similar to how making posts showing support for Ukraine is "doing the right thing." Or how saying "Trump sucks!" is "doing the right thing." People on social media act like saying things there is helping anyone when it's all empty words, often spoken in an echo chamber, supported with zero action.

Not that there's any action that even could be taken in this case lol

Reddit default app is shitty, it's buggy and have half the informations it used to have on the old version of the website (old.reddit.com)

Agree.

I also use old.reddit.

If forced to use the app will probably migrate elsewhere.

The Reddit app is fine. Reddit has stated they aren’t charging the apps that service the disabled the same way they are charging the 3rd party apps that are just focused on bots, looks and less ads. This needs to be made abundantly clear.

If it gets bad Reddit will just reopen all the subs and replace the mods, because they can. Reddit is allowing this to happen, it’s not out of their control lol.

“Yea yea you kids have your fun, come inside when you’re done. I lock the front door after the streetlights go out, hope you make it in before then.”

Reddit is already unlocking subs, banning moderators who participated in taking subs dark, promoting new mods, and moving on. Any sub I've come across that participated (or still is) I just remove myself from the sub. Honestly, my life has been way better off for it too.

This sub is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

A lot of stuff just doesn't work (or at least didn't used to when I last checked). Like sometimes videos just not having sound.

1
Angels_hair123•

The default app is glitching as fuck and stuff always takes ten minutes to load and I have to restart all the time to view shit

1
GiraffeWithATophat•

Do you have a really shitty phone or something? I've never experienced that

3
Angels_hair123•

That's probably part of it

Makes me close the app every time cuz fuck reddit

The default Reddit "app" is an HTML browser, such as Chrome or Firefox.

"Apps" are for people who ride scooters and dream of owning a tinyhouse someday.

That's pretty much why I use Firefox. Browser security is better.

No. Other developers built the community with different takes on access, and now are getting kicked out. Also, if you ever get banned, the app tracks your phone imei, so if you make a new account and access it from the app, you get banned again.

All reddit has to do is charge $1 a year to the user, and let them use whatever app they want. If 25% stay, thats $250 million a year.

rando90433•

Yup, I've been using the official app for some time. Never had an issue.

1
raduque•

Spoken like somebody who doesn't know anything better.

The official Reddit app is the worst kind of garbage fire inside a dumpster, that is located inside an active volcano.

Idk the app has always worked fine for me—the video player sucks at times but I wouldn’t consider it a dumpster fire, let alone a volcano fire lol

It's fine that it works for you, but the experience in a third party app is significantly better.

1
Spanglertastic•

The reddit app doesn't work with adaptive technologies for the blind. You might not give a shit but blind people do.

The API change could screw a lot of bots. The default app doesnt replace bots.

Moderators of large subreddits use 3rd party tools to handle the moderation load. The default app doesn't work well for moderation.

The fact that you have simple needs does not mean that everyone does.

-4†
spiralintobliss•

the power tripping mods are exploiting blind people to push their personal agenda. super pathetic.

Spez made it very clear that accessibility options for the blind will remain available.

22
Strange-Carob4380•

Thank you! People are really leaning into using blind people as a token for their weird nerd fight with Reddit.

12

This is not about fighting for blind people good lord. It’s a bunch of angry neckbeards drunk off the smallest amount of power.

TheRealJokar•

I'm using the reddit app rn. It's so bad, buggy, and needlessly slow

-4

The point isn’t the app, the point is taking away choice for an obvious cash grab. Choice is always better.

-4
Strange-Carob4380•

It’s not a cash grab when it’s literally the only way the site makes money lol. People expect Reddit to just host this site for free indefinitely?

8
manurosadilla•

They could’ve set up a reasonable API pricing, but they immediately went for “fuck you” prices. The point of this is to kill other competition to prevent other options to the app.

-2
Strange-Carob4380•

Yeah because Reddit users are the best barometer of what fair pricing is. And yes, if I ran a business why would I make it easy for someone to compete with me? Why would I want to allow them access to my data in order for them to take more money that otherwise would go to me?

3
manurosadilla•

I’m not arguing about what a business owner should or shouldn’t do. You said it wasn’t a cash grab, I showed you it was. Now you may think it’s ok to do a cash grab, which is ok, but that wasn’t the point.
