I mainly play standard, so I don't have a clue where to start. I've played a few drafts and will play more, but I'm looking for a format and/or a deck where the cards can really shine.

Well, there's actually a few rising decks coming up in historic because of the LOTR cards.
My personal favorite is Boros Legends, that uses Frodo, Merri, and The White Tree alongside other cheap and hasty legends to zerg down the enemy. I added Winota to my deck as well since there are a good balance of humans and non humans. The deck is fast, a bit of ramp thanks to the mox and has some card draw from merri and that one drawf from Baldur's gate.
There are also a handful of infinite combos that have shown up as well.
One of which is the [[Rosie cotton of south lane]] being another combo piece for [[Scurry Oak]]
And [[Samwise Gamgee]] going infinite with [[Caldron Familiar]] and a sac outlit. (If you play this I hate you.)
[[Orcish Bowmasters]] has been popping up in a few decks as well.

Historic Brawl is where a number of those cards shine.
Any cards or card combos in particular?
Are you familiar with the scurryoak combo? Now Rosie replaces both Heliod and the lifegainer (usually soul warden), turning a 3 card combo into a more consistant 2 card combo. One of the Sam's (wg, makes food), cauldron familiar, and woe strider (or other repeatable 0 cost sac outlet) let's you basically do the cat oven combo (without the oven) repeatedly for a OTK. Tom Bombadil isn't exactly a combo, but he can be kinda ridiculous, like a Jodah but for sagas.
BILLY THE PONY!
Shadowfax makes me want to look up how many horses there are on Arena for a Historic Brawl deck. Shelob is wild.
[[crested sunmare]] is the only other horse worth a damn, but shadowfax is still a great commander due to the 2nd part of their text, you can even cheat in something like the old Elesh norn.
