Come hang out on Lemmy.

Space for all of our frients to join!

BeyondCombustion.net - a Lemmy server dedicated to cannabis communities.

Wiki rework and other news soon.

Edit 1:

The new Wiki with WYSIWYG editing powered by Wiki.js is online now. No content has been migrated from the old wiki yet.

However, if you login with Twitch or Discord you can edit the Wiki, create new pages, upload images, etc etc.

Much easier and more user friendly then GitHub hopefully :-)

Might be unpopular however if i'm going to move away from Reddit it's going to be to FC not to lemmy. Just my .02

Lemmy is just 1 part of this.

FC has issues too, https://xenforo.com/ isn't perfect either.

  • FC doesn't have the r/vaporents post history already scraped/downloaded to import or host alongside it.
  • FC doesn't have 100TB of storage and a plan to offer youtube like video streaming (for free) w/o the bullshit censorship of our content youtube likes to do.
  • FC doesn't have a Gitea instance for open source collaboration on vapes/firmware, as well as the software stack behind the site.
  • FC doesn't have Wiki.js using social logins via Twitch/Discord to allow anyone to easily edit with WYSIWYG.
  • FC is terribly hard to navigate and find things for the average person.

That list goes on....

I LOVE FC, but it's also a very old outdated forum basically hosted off of a desktop PC.

BeyondCombustion's changes are not intended to replace FC or even compete with it or Reddit. It's an alternative forum with a newer tech stack and fully open source so anyone can copy it. That's the real decentralized internet, not the fediverse.

I'm honestly not a huge of Lemmy either, mostly because it's a very immature new platform with a lot of technical issues. It will get better long term, but it's what folks asked for now so I built it. There's cool stuff on there, but the fediverse just acts weird....

There's other options that'll be worked on now that Lemmy is up.

I hear you on all points except hard to search on FC. I want to be clear my comment was not meant to shit on your efforts and work. The content on FC in regards to vapes seems more helpful and more geared toward the vape enthusiast. I hate the format of FC i just don't know if moving is worth it when its all there on FC even though it ain't great.

That's why I started the Wiki. I was combing through FC trying to get the good stuff out.

Like how to fix a Grashopper lmao

Ahh the grasshopper, so much potential. I applaud the effort and dig the beyondcombustion.net name.

What do you mean how to fix a grasshopper? I got one making police lights every time I try and turn it on, it's been in my drawer since 2019. Tell me please

FuckCombustion.com An amazing old school forum with an absolute treasure trove of information and smart people on everything cannabis herb vaping.

It’s The OG™.

But it’s a little hard to navigate because of its monolithic post structure with a post per device and then pages upon pages of comments on that device. The search isn’t great because it’s old, and it’s hard to find the really good info buried deep in those posts sometimes. So a lot is kinda lost by being buried, or inaccessible to most people as a result.

I picked the domain BeyondCombustion.net a couple years back for the wiki for this subreddit to be a more “family friendly” alternative to fuckcombustion for finding device specific info/facts without pages of BS to cut through. The name BeyondCombustion was supposed to be funny and an homage to how awesome and important to the community FuckCombustion.com is.

I enjoy an awful lot about FC too. Still, a point I'd add in the cons list is that many users get are very excited about vapes to the point that I think it hampers their ability to be objective. A lot of users seem like they can't be critical of vapes. I get that there are subtle differences that some people really appreciate, but not every newbie looking for a functional vape needs to buy a TM2, TetraP80, Anvil, Dyna, Lotus, FW7, and brick device. Its pretty easy to talk about what makes those vapes different enough that for some users you can straight up say x is better than y.

There also seems to be some personality cults going on where certain members are accorded way too much import when they weigh in on threads. Just my 2 cents. Outstanding resource, but don't let yourself be talked into spending a grand when you are looking for one functional vape.

Ya, I didn't want to go there but I agree.

I love the hobby of collecting. My VAS is terminal.

But, most people would be perfectly happy with a POTV One, Xmax Starry, V3 Pro, or a Crafty/Mighty. Out of alllllllll the shit i've bought in the last couple years, I use the Mighty the most.

It works every time. It gets me high every time. It's easy to clean. Might not have the best taste or be fancy/pretty/new, but that shit is perfect as far as medicating/getting stoned.

Wiki/Flow chart/more casual chat/something else then FC can offer is a better option for a majority of the average "vape curious" individuals.

Most people who I’ve let use a POTV One and a FW7 prefer the POTV One because it’s a lot more simple to use. I also run into plenty of people who try vaping and decide it’s not for them. The POTV One/v3 pro is pretty perfect for entry level and it covers the needs of most people tbh.

It’s a very small “craft hobby” so to speak where your first device will basically do everything you could want it to do until it eventually dies in a few years.

That said it’s also harder to have actual discourse on these items through these kinds of forums and eventually everything crawls to an echo chamber. Regularly updated and maintained wikis for devices that remain neutral would be, imo, the best route to have objective opinion on actual devices.

Is there a guide for sign up? I'm new to fediverse shit, I have a kbin social and a separate matrix/element account, can I log in to those or see this from kbin? Or do I need to set something else up?

This community is one of the most important ones for me on reddit. Are y'all out out or just setting up a second spot?

Oh, realized I missed this. And this is going to sound super pessimistic, there’s about a decade of Reddit my account age doesn’t show that makes it sound that way lol

This subreddit isn’t planning on going anywhere.

r/entexchange didn’t plan on going anywhere either. Yet they decided to move to an even more “walled garden” locked within Discord who could absolutely do the same thing to them without notice again.

The folks at r/blind didn’t plan on not really having a functioning way to use Reddit once the API changes take place on 6/30/2023. They’re shit up a creek now though.

We can’t control what Reddit does.

Who knows what u/spez will get up his ass if his coffee isn’t just the right temp tomorrow morning? Maybe Reddit will be behind a paywall for the users, cause fuck us.

We can control servers/hardware/services we own. Also we haven’t been trying to have a stock IPO/clean up communities/monetize everything through advertising and data mining the for two years like Reddit has.

The official site join-lemmy.org sucks as a guide, some of the servers listed on there are ones to avoid too. our new wiki is up though/the homepage of beyondcombustion.net, so ill put something on it tomorrow sometime.

Edit: r/GrassHopperVape also banned. Had a ton of good info that’s probably lost. I did copy a couple common fixes into the wiki though prior to them being banned by Reddit.

Should be a login/create account button in the top right.

Kbin should be able to follow the community and post/make comments but I haven’t tried it. Mastodon, peertube, and other activitypub (I think that’s the term) apps all have some interoperability.

Funny you mention Matrix chat, that’s what I was working on today along with Discourse and a couple options that could sync Reddit after the api changes at the end of the month.

I'll pass. Like others I will stay here for as long as it is active and move to FC when it no longer is.
