Worried about money.

Discussions

So I really need to learn to save better. I’ve had some car expenses that have come up recently. And I had previously had this mindset. Oh, I can get online anytime almost and earn money, no biggie…. Until these expenses happened and now I’m like uh oh. But also when I am stressed and particularly stressed about money. I mean it’s good for me to think about money just a little in the sense that oh I’ll only do such and such of you take me private first or wherev, but it’s so much harder for me to stay entertaining for cam if I get like… this stressed about it.

It’s almost like I have to pretend for a minute that I’m just gonna try like a cammathon or something, because that’s kinda where I’m at, but forget how stressed I am.

Yeah. But lesson learned the hard way. Those lucky days, I need to save that better for the days I make less and also emergencies like this.

Anyone else have troubles camming or being cool and entertaining when stressed?

I ALWAYS calculate my bills and rent into every weekly pay. And I always collect my rent first and try to have it at least 2 weeks earlier than needed. That way I don’t stress if one week I somehow don’t make enough and get behind. Also invest please I have invested bit by bit and if anything bad happens I can go into that.

I’m like brand new to the whole supporting myself thing. After I get this stuff paid and figured out. I need to take a finance class and learn about investing.

No matter if you earn less or more in a certain period you need to try to save at least 10% of each payment.

It’s important to save as most as you can. You need to create an emergency fund for yourself.

Being stressed for money is not good because that worried energy will work against you.

Yeah I came here to say this - it's boring, but chucking 10% of every single paycheque into a savings account is a really good idea. If you can, make it an account with a different bank to the one you use for everyday banking, so you can't even see it, out of sight, out of mind.

Dude I'm the worst about thinking "oh well, I'll get online later and make the money back" but then I get lazy and don't follow through 🤦🏼‍♀️

I saw on another comment that you're "new to supporting yourself" and need to learn about finance/investing. Reddit is a surprisingly good resource, r/personalfinance has a really comprehensive guide. https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/wiki/index/

Investing should come later, after you've established a realistic budget and saved up an emergency fund. I mentioned this on another finance related post here a few days ago: learn to pay yourself first. What that means is you take a percentage out of every paycheck and immediately put it into savings, and then budget the rest of your expenses around that, even if it means making some temporary sacrifices (like committing to a r/NoBuy season, where you don't buy anything non-essential for some amount of time).

Most people try to do it the other way around and say they'll "save what's leftover", but if you don't actually stick to a budget there often isn't anything left to save at the end of the month, and the cycle repeats. It's tougher for us because we have such variable/unreliable income, which is why it's important to have multiple income streams, get into a work routine, and really hustle to budget and save. Once you've established a healthy emergency fund, you can chill out a bit. It's definitely hard to cam while stressed, but try to channel that stress into the motivation and discipline you'll need if you want to get ahead financially. Find ways to put yourself in a good mood before you log on.

I blew through close to 10k of my emergency fund over the last year due to mental and physical health issues and car problems. It really sucked watching those dollar numbers go down, and now I'm in your shoes where I need to hustle to build my savings back up again. But it was SO much less stressful knowing I had that money to dip into.

That’s basically me right now, though the last two weeks have struggled with health issues so it’s been harder to get on cam and I have like two more days of this pay period left and I barely made $10 on nf. It’s getting a bit overwhelming

Oh no! I’m sorry about the health issues. That all sounds so hard

PLEASE also remember to set aside 30% for taxes. Even if this is just a side hustle, when tax season comes around you’ll be fucked if you’re not ready for it.

Noted. Very much noted. Ty!

I've been exhausted and worried about my cats and money. When I have energy I'm either cleaning or making videos. Don't feel like interacting with horny dudes but I know cam is a better money maker than just making videos.

Sometimes you just gotta hit the pavement while your world is falling apart....

I struggle with this, a LOT. Camming, calls, etc... it's all I have to make ends meet and I'm so far behind on things that focusing on this type of work is difficult.

Hard to get a guy off when you know you won't get a payment before your electric gets shut off is really hard... 'bout to loose my car too, it's hard.

Just... turn on the line and do what you can.

Yep. This right here is the energy I need. You got this too!

Thanks, I'll probably be okay...
I doubt anything is getting better anytime soon though, still waiting for my country to vote me out of existance.

I feel the same. Think8ng about camming for money, then the actual work of camming. 2 separate experiences.

I was in the hospital all April and almost died and came back home to find out Niteflirt having the DDOS hacker attacks and tons of older men that called me all the time could not do so anymore (can't use VPN, can't bypass the human verification tests etc). I lost a lot of money from this and haven't picked up still. Always have as many sources of income as possible too and save up like others said, otherwise you will end up incredibly stressed, I think it has happened to every self employed person (and to several who got laid off of vanilla jobs suddenly), you are definitely not alone in this.

Omg you’ve been through so much! Thanks for sharing and also for the advices. I hope you can recover well from all of that!

No offense but a lot of people I know who do this SUCK with money…not because of habits so much as entitlement. This can be a great job…and it’s really easy with the freedom to get in the habit of “I’m taking a mental health day!” Or “I worked hard I deserve this”. People these days have a mentality of “work to live, not live to work”.

Which is all fine…but you can’t expect to have the same life as people who do work full time.

Not saying this is a the case, but with this job it’s easy to get into a habit of only working a handful of hours.
