What’s the tea?!

Discussion

I’m in yet another rematch (is it a rematch if you watch it every week?🤔), and I have a few questions regarding bts/the actors! Michael Shanks left because he felt underused, from what I read. Personally I always felt they all had so many individual moments. We got so many brilliant performances from MS hence why I’m confused about that statement of him being underused. Then he left only to come back right after in s6 as a guest star then permanently on 7 but “starring…”🧐 I personally never found Daniel underused. Do any of you think that? Also, I read that Christopher Judge and MS don’t get along on a post here on Reddit but the rest of them seem to get along fine. So I guess I’m wondering if Michael Shanks got along with the cast? Was he a diva? Anyone has bts stories about their interactions? Please no downvoting.😊

I see this happen a lot in long running shows. Actors feel trapped in their role because it is a well paying job, but it doesn’t have growth potential.

Then they go back into the ‘real world’ and realize they aren’t the A List celebrity

I liked Daniel as a character in the show, he was used well and liked by most. But I can understand why he may feel like he stagnated

I have never heard that he left because he was underused, h left because he thought he would become a big movie star, which didn't materialize.

Shanks and Judge were best friends. So much so they went into business together and started a tv production company as SG1 was winding down (I still think their fallen angel tv show idea was kinda cool). However, the show was passed on by networks and as can happen when money/business and personal relationships mix, there was a falling out. Neither Shanks nor Judge have said much about it publicly.

What I didn't know until another commenter mentioned it on that other thread and googled was that CJ had a lot of physical health problems needing several surgeries (and probably rehab) as well as him having addiction problems and needing rehab. Apparently he and MS patched up their bad blood during the surgery time and all is well here.

Oh the credits thing? Thats a negotiation thing with agents/production as a status play. Top billing is prime, where RDA is, and while you'd think that means last bottom, those special credits at the end with X as y character is the second most coveted. So it was probably something in the return negotiations on the contract.

It also wouldn’t really have been fair to Amanda Tapping that after being bumped up to second in the credits for one season that she’d be put back to third, the “and…” credit was a way around that.

The show became kind of formulaic. He was the research guy that had answers when they needed them and kept Jack in line. After his show wife died he wanted more to do than pretend to read books and look exasperated. Background actors in star trek had the same issue, it can be boring standing in the background tapping the furniture dramatically.

At the last convention a few weeks ago, some one asked if they all still see each other. Amanda did say her and Shanks did still hang out as they live in the same city.
