I find it really annoying and cringey to hear women say they won’t date men under 6’ tall.

I feel like I hear and see it all over the place that women won’t date under 6’… like, how unrealistic and shallow. You’re immediately cutting out the larger portion of the available men out there, not considering quality of character or who they are as a person. I’ve met a lot of good looking men under 6’ and never once even thought about it as an “issue”. My husband is relatively the same height as me, maybe even an inch or two shorter, and he’s the most attractive man I’ve ever met. What gives with this crap these days? I understand physical attraction obviously is a factor when dating, but that doesn’t even really correlate to height so much I feel… thoughts?

I knew a girl that said she had to date a guy taller than her so that she can wear her high heels. I however am taller than my bf and we love a short king

My fiance is a little taller than me but if I wear any shoe with a thicker sole (or heels but that like never happens because I'm a clutz) it makes me taller than him.. he doesn't care, but I always feel insecure🥴

1
BrobinHood01•

That’s the same reason why I don’t really wear heels as well, I do from time to time but he doesn’t mind at all

1

The ones I’ve dated definitely minded lol

I have no problem with it as long as they accept men don’t want fatties

Yeah, I always find it SO annoying when girls say that. Obviously it’s ok to have a type, but I think it’s so weird to not consider someone as an option just because of how tall they are. Also height huge differences suck. My boyfriend is 6’4 and i’m 5’ and I look like a kid next to him. The height difference also makes some things a lot more difficult. I would love it if we were around the same height, and I would still love him the same if he were barely taller than me or shorter than me!

I’m 5’0 too! Kudos to you and your husband for making it work 💕 I dated a guy who was 6’4 briefly. It was way too weird holding his hand in public, made me feel like a little kid.

Agree I'm nonbinary aroace I'm not going to date anyone but I feel cringy and bad for guys whenever I hear that I don't understand why Hight is so important it can help you sure but I didn't think that was important for dating

It’s super gross, and such a dumb, shallow standard (especially coming from short women!) I’m a woman and I hate that dumb statement

ShadowOcelot69•

Those that say this unironicaly are potentially using height as a filter for dick size. Proportions and all that.

those are shallow and mostly useless girls. i say girls not women, because they are childishly espousing a childhood fairy tale.

Since I'm short I was always so confused about why girls liked tall guys, everyone is tall compared to me, like you said I get that it is a preference but like completely cut it off it's kinda crazy

1
nuskit•

I hear you' I'm 5'1" and I could not care less how tall someone is. I've dated guys shorter than me, I've dated guy over 7'. The only thing better about the tall guys is that I don't have to climb on counters to get things, or ask someone at the supermarket to reach something for me. My husband is 5'7" and to me, the pinnacle of sexy.

It sounds a lot better than “I have daddy issues”, js

i find it really cringey and annoying when men say shorter girls are more attractive 🤷‍♀️

Most men don't care about height

fartingwiener•

not true

No-Reputation112•

I’m a “tall” woman and consistently get rejected based solely on my height. Many of these rejections come from men a couple inches taller than me too. It’s been the guys shorter than me who care less.

1
Iamyou125•

Ok so the guys who are shorter than you don't care about your height and the guys at least 3-4 inches taller than you don't care about your height which makes my statement of "most guys don't care about height" correct.

1
No-Reputation112•

I’m only 5’9”, so the majority of guys I meet ARE right around my height or taller. But I’ll give you and men the benefit of the doubt.

1

most men care about anything that will make them insecure or threaten their ‘masculinity’

jcmax123•

So two things can be cringey?

Woman here. I actually prefer when the guy is a bit taller than me so when I wear heels we are the same height 😆 (I’m 5’6”)

My partner is 5'8" he's tall enough I already gotta stand on my tip toes. A man about and inch or so above me to 5'8" is good for me (I'm 5' even)

1
manifeellikemold•

It is cringe.

I’m about 166 cm (maybe 5”6) and I want him taller than me so about 180 cm is good (i think it’s 5”8/9) but that’s about it

I think it’d be uncomfortable if he was so much taller than me

It's okay to be annoyed. In this world, everyone has to live with other people and their god-damned expectations. Some of those expectations, that they have the gall to verbalize upfront, they haven't even thought through the implications of. And they may in fact have a serious preference for personal reasons. People have their own truth, get used to it. I have to speak from experience here: I am a 6'2" man and, attractive as they may be, I will try not to become interested in women under 5'7". Too much of a mismatch in height makes most sex actually just distractingly inconvenient to do without serious planning, right furniture, and a winning attitude that is a bit much to ask in casual dating/fucking. Sorry if TMI, but why do people not admit this more?

Anyway, people - women in this case - they're just selfishly asking to have a niche they created in their mind perfectly filled by random stranger. Humans are ALWAYS doing that, consciously and subconsciously. Entitled of them, maybe. Often unhelpful in interpersonal relations. But have heart, for superficial expectations to do with looks in any way CAN be overcome...with a sense of humor and some tact. Or not! Which is also okay...

Overcoming may not mean changing the mind of and winning the affection of the woman who professes that she wouldn't date a shorter man. It may mean just being content to ignore her and trust that women with better judgment than to even transmit such a toxic viewpoint will find you. Maybe. The world is 50% women, but 98% idiots. Forgive me if I've misjudged what this issue meant to you, personally, OP. Just giving my take.

ppassy•

That’s a lot to say without reading past the title. It’s almost like making judgment on a potential partner by only looking at their height.

1

I accept that. I'm very judgmental. Sometimes myopic because of it.

I just had heard this complaint from other men so often, I assumed that under the title was a very typical rant by a very typical man. And the response to the assumed rant had been written in my head already for a while, you could say. And since this post will probably attract the attention of a bunch of shorter men who wonder the same thing, I'll leave my free advice up there. I hope it gets downvotes.

1

My sister won’t date anyone shorter than her 5’7” height. I myself do find it very annoying when she and other women look past short or shorter men. No matter what I say she won’t change her mind. I myself don’t have an issue with height. Personality is what I look at. And eyes lol.

1

High preferences are weird af, I'm 6ft2 fem and I find dating annoying...either guys assume they need to be taller then me or I'm a fetish. I know for my taller male friends they also feel fetishised by these women. I just wish people cared about important stuff like personality and life goals

I’m a lady and that always irked me too. My fiancé is 2 inches shorter than me and it’s never bothered me. I like short out-of-shape dudes with beards.

1
fartingwiener•

same tbh

1
CommitteeAwkward•

I don't understand it personally. I am 5'9, and my last boyfriend was 5'6. It did not bother me, however he was insecure and made that evident. It was rough hearing him bring up my height often. He would try to place it in a joking manner, and It never bothered me until I realized it bothered him. I would attempt to ignore how it hurt my feelings because I knew it was his self conscious burden.

Now dating a guy who is 5'11. I don't care about his height however. Admit it is nice not to have that insecurity anymore though.

1

I do agree with this especially in the US even where I live in Australia you hear girls want 6’+ guys, to the point that so many dudes are lying about their heights that it skews the perception of what 6’0 actually looks like. For instance I’m 6’1 and I’m taller than most men I come across and people keep thinking I’m 6’3 and then just keep saying my doctor must of measured wrong or something.
