That would be the 4th edition codex
It's a neat book. Mentions Ynnead and the prophecy to resurrect him long before 8th/9th and the Phoenix Rising stuff
Oh yeah Ynnead has been a thing for a very long time. It's an integral part to craftworld eldar lore since 2nd edition.
Are you sure? I recall Gav Thorpe saying that he came up with the concept of Ynnead as a small snippet in the 3rd edition codex supplement
This was my first codex, I still have mine. I just love the artwork in them so much.
Fun fact, eldar never received a 5th edition codex, so this codex was used for 4th and 5th edition, and even the beginning of 6th before they got updated
I played Eldar in 5th and this is the Codex I used. I remembered feeling that the army felt weirdly out of date when getting curbstomped by Grey Knights and Space Wolves.
I also ran a Liberation of Isha campaign in the store I went to. Since virtually nobody played Eldar, I made the campaign primarily Chaos vs Imperium. Eldar would show up on the board with mysterious objectives, blow up a couple of units and then leave. I let one of the younger kids in the shop run my Eldar army and they would be so excited to have secret objectives nobody else knew.
Fun way to run 8 player apocalypse games.
Omg I had that years ago
Ah, my first codex, 4th edition. Love that book. And as you said elsewhere, so many models are still relevant!
I loved that book!
Ah memories
I remember when this came out. It made the Eldar seem so sleek and modern. And the new war walker and ranger models were just chef’s kiss
Definitely is a different game playing Eldar then than it is now
It always baffles me that they don't put the edition clearly labeled on their products
4th edition. Came out Nov 2006, or Oct if you got the boxed set that included the codex with the limited edition Autarch.
This book reintroduced harlequins to the game, and ported over the Autarch from Epic.
It lasted until the 6th edition codex in 2013.
That book has a lot of nostalgia for me. First time in the UK (2008), had a wonderful holiday. Fell in love with London. Walked into the main London store and bought that Codex. Every time I open it I’m reminded of my trip.
5th
4th
Ah my first Eldar codex, performed terribly until we got good in 6th
Found this old codex while I was cleaning my stuff out of my parent's attic. It's an interesting read, and really shows the difference between modern codexes and the older ones.
I belive its 4th edition. I had to play it all through 5e because they didn't get a new codex till 6th.
And judging by the pictures inside, didn't get new models until 9th lol
'Fun' Fact: Warp Spiders are still the same sculpts as when they released them in 1994! The only difference is they changed them to Finecast (yuck!)
Pretty sure the pics currently on the GW site are the same ones from this codex
Damn that's older than me
