The holy Trinity....or unholy depending on how you look at it

Discussion over. Shut it down.

But let me sneak in Fury and Bridge on the River Kwai as honorable mentions.

All Quiet on the Western Front would like to have a word with you

1
MentatYP•

I'm sure there are many that would like to have a word with me. Left off Black Hawk Down, as well as many movies set during war time and even feature war themes but not necessarily what one would consider traditional war movies like The Great Escape (no HDR but still fantastic), Lawrence of Arabia, Patton (not quite out in 4K yet but rumors are soon), Apocalyse Now, Braveheart, etc.. We're spoiled for choice!

Braveheart is great and looks amazing in 4k! Maybe the best medieval warfare 4k movie I own. That is, until Kingdom of Heaven gets a 4k!

1
ChoakIsland•

Black Hawk Down is reference in 4k.

Is Black Hawn Down available with Dolby Atmos?

3
NaieraDK•

So much better than the Blu-ray that it’s not even funny.

No love for Full Metal Jacket?

7
Eccentric_CardinalOP•

I kinda wanna get it but the first half of the movie is really hard to watch.

All quiet along the western front, and it never got a 4k but They Shall Not Grow Old is a great blu-ray.

I'm confused lol

I think both of your confusions stemmed from the fact that you used a comma when you were trying to make two separate points about two different things.

In my defense I am not sober

Black Hawk and Savin Private Ryan

excellentiger•

Black hawk down and Apocalypse now

4
draynay•

Blackhawk Down and Saving Private Ryan are probably the two best, but Apocalypse Now looked pretty great too.

bcjc78•

Both are great but don’t forget about Fury, Zero Dark Thirty.

2
Gug21•

Zero Dark Thirty is more of a detective story/spy thriller than a war film

4
MattyKatty•

I mean, 13 Hours is also not technically a war film either

2
Eccentric_CardinalOP•

"Your best armed conflict movies in 4k" didn't have a good ring to it lol

2
Eccentric_CardinalOP•

I actually haven't seen either of those. I've heard good things about Zero Dark Thirty though.

Hacksaw Ridge & Apocalypse Now ez

I prefer Black Hawk Down as it has a somewhat happier ending.

1
LakeEnd•

Its actually very good movie on the other hand 13 Hours...

1
Eccentric_CardinalOP•

What do you have against it exactly? I've heard comments already about how it's not an accurate representation of the events. That's fine and that very well might be true but I think it's a very enjoyable movie as a movie.

1
NorthOfWinter•

Not 13 hours lol! It’s ok but Ryan,Dunkirk,Glory,Apocalypse and full metal are all great!

1
adventuremaker69•

Saving Private Ryan and Full Metal Jacket.

1
rumpelstilt•

the other ones that aren’t these

1
ObjectiveLegend117•

Ow so many great one. -Fury -Saving Private Ryan (one of the first I saw on my new surround setup, that beach storming scene is incredible, bullets fly by you everywhere) -Hacksaw Ridge -Dunkirk -1917 -Black Hawk Down -Apocalypse Now

Tbh, aside from the audio I was dissapointed in 13 hours. Might need to give it a rewatch.

1
Eccentric_CardinalOP•

Hopefully you like it more on rewatch. Personally, I had a blast the first time I watched it and even more on 4k.

Dunkirk and Apcolypse Now

datagoon•
  • Dr. Strangelove
  • Starship Troopers
  • Tropic Thunder

Where do you find tropic thunder?

1
BluBicycles•

It’s a Kino Lorber 4K release

Dunkirk and Saving Private Ryan

the_blue_flounder•

13 Hours is so good. I only own the Blu-Ray but maybe it's time to upgrade

1
Eccentric_CardinalOP•

Good to find another 13 hours fan! From the comments here I thought I was the only one haha.

I think the 4k looks spectacular but since you already own the blu-ray, you might wanna check what they have to say in the review on Blu-ray (dot) com. I think they do compare the BR to the 4k there.

ewokzilla•

Saving Private Ryan, Starship Troopers and Full Metal Jacket

1
Eccentric_CardinalOP•

Man I wanna get Starship Troopers but I've been on the hunt for the steelbook since it has some extra special features.

That movie is great though. I think it might be the best sci-fi war film in 4k until we get an Aliens 4k at least haha

1
ewokzilla•

It’s been one of my favorites since I saw it in the theater in 1997. I got both the 4k steel books as soon as they were available. Make sure you get the newer one with Dolby Vision.

1
Eccentric_CardinalOP•

Will do!

By the way, I'm curious. There's some debate as to whether people took it as satire when it came out or if it flew over people's heads. What's your perspective?

1
ewokzilla•

Having already seen Verhoeven’s Robocop beforehand, I was familiar with his satirical comedic style going into SST. I got it right away, but many others definitely didn’t. It wasn’t the most popular movie in it’s time, which I found to be a crime against cinema, because that was my best experience in a movie theater ever.
