BIPOC Alternative rock bands

discussion

Hi, I am doing research for a book I'm writing and trying to find alternative rock bands with at least one BIPOC person in them, preferably ones that have been around for a while.

Here are some examples of bands to give you the idea of the sound/type of bands I'm looking for:

  • TV on the Radio
  • The National
  • Florence & the Machine
  • Bon Iver
  • Arctic Monkeys

Thanks!

Extra immediately. Vernon Reid is a monster on this.

If you grew up during the guitar hero explosion, you’ve likely heard the song “cult of personality.” Hell even just listening to local rock radio you’ve probably come across it. Their guitarist is crazy good and has really unique style.

Death, band from the 70s were an all black rock band.

Sum 41's lead guitarist Dave Baksh who also has other band projects that might be included in what you're looking for.

Nova Twins are more recent but very much alternative rock.

Living Color as has already been mentioned.

That's off the top of my head, but hope you keep building a list out!
