Do you know if there are any plans for an infinity app for lemmy? Honestly, it's the best reddit app there I've ever used. Would gladly switch to it for lemmy.

There are multiple devs who have forked infinity to make it work for lemmy but none of them are on F-droid.

I use Jerboa for the time being as nothing else is ready

eternity for Lemmy is a fork of infinity. it's available on f-droid as of a few days ago.

Is there a non-nightly version?

How do I add the repo? When I click the link, there's a QR code and a link. It says to scan code or click link. When I do so nothing happens. Nothing else intractable on the page. When I googled how to do it, it says to click add repo, and then select that I already have f-droid, but nothing is giving me that option. :(

Also try voyager which is the one with least bugs but i don't like the iOS like UI

The Sync Dev has released a very nice App for Lemmy, it's free with what I think is a pricey paid option to remove ads, but it does work well and looks great.

Why don't you use the infinity Lemmy version?

Its renamed to Eternity for lemmy now

I don't use proprietary apps

Fair enough then 👍🏻

What ads? There are no ads in Lemmy.

There are ads in Sync for Lemmy

Infinity for Reddit --> Eternity for Lemmy

It's a great app, stable, everything works, and what's best is that the UI stayed the same.

Wait, why is Infinity dead now? Is it about the subscription announcement from the dev just now?

1
PossiblyLinux127OP•

The old Infinity that was completely libre is dead because the Dev is making it proprietary

1

Wait, what? I didn't see this announcement. Originally he said it was going to remain open source!

1
PossiblyLinux127OP•

He can't because of reddit TOS

1
HostilenemyI am the dev•

Wut? I didn't say that.

1
HostilenemyI am the dev•

Yes it will remain open source.

1
HostilenemyI am the dev•

I am not making it proprietary.

1
HostilenemyI am the dev•

No it's not dead.

Make your own app with API, it ain't even hard...

1
PossiblyLinux127OP•

Its harder than just downloading the app from F-droid.

Anyway I've moved to lemmy so I won't have to worry about forced breaking changes to apps

1
ctrlHead•

Ia the "personal" key free to use?

1
amangarg2000•

Yes, it is free. I am using it from the day tutorial to do so dropped and haven't had any problem.

When Infinity really stops working, using Reddit will become such a chore. I know myself well enough to admit I'll use the official app anyway, but it is so bad an app

1
PossiblyLinux127OP•

Try switching to lemmy

Infinity won't stop working. Paid version is up soon. And if you don't want to use the paid version, you can use your own API. There's some great guide here which does all the hard work for you.

1
MrD3a7h•

I have no issues with paying for a superior service to browse reddit.

1
PossiblyLinux127OP•

But its proprietary and can be broken by reddit at anytime

1
MrD3a7h•

I don't think you understand how the new API works. Infinity is paying reddit for access to said API. Reddit revoking access to that API is likely a breach of contract.

1
PossiblyLinux127OP•

I doubt it. Reddit has not been the best as of late

1
Harpua-2001•

Idk what you expected, the dev has to pay the bills somehow

See you in Eternity
