Dad is gone.

His fight is over, I’m very mixed right now between sad that I will miss him so much and relieved that he’s no longer struggling, fighting, or suffering. It’s very odd, from giving him medicine every 2 hours to him being gone, I find the urge to get up and check on him. I can still hear him breathing but he’s not here. I’m happy he’s with Jesus in heaven now.

You’re handling this exactly how you should. Sounds like you were there with him, shoulder to shoulder, til the end. A lot of people would give up. You didn’t. I’m sure that if he could tell you before, that whatever was left of him that you grew to love, that you truly did everything you possibly could and that words can’t express his gratitude, that those were thoughts inside of him. His battle is done. So is yours. Take time to be good to you and heal from this.

Thanks so much ❤️ I held his hand as he took his last breath. My mom and I have been his caregivers for the past few months since he was discharged, while being his daughter and his friend at the same time. I never gave up on him, I know he couldn’t help it. Thank you so much for the kind words, they have definitely helped.

Going thru the same thing right now with my dad. His battle is still ongoing but we know what’s coming. Just don’t know when.

Not knowing when was the hardest part for us, but when the time comes and it’s really his last moments, you will know.

I am so sorry for your loss. I totally understand. I have found it difficult to go from constant checking and caring for my Dad to him being gone. Sending you love and strength during these difficult times. ❤️

Hugs. I lost my dad a year ago and it's sad, but also a relief as you say. With dementia, we lose them over such a long time. Mostly when I'm sad now, it's because I miss the "real" Dad, the man he was before his dementia robbed him of the ability to do the things he loved. And that man had been gone for quite a while.

I hope the happy memories of your dad are a blessing for you and your family. May he rest in peace.

Love and light to you and your family 💖 I cared for my dad while he was on hospice. The best and worst time of my life! There is no wrong way to get through this time…just be gentle with yourself, take a shower, rest, sleep, just be gentle.

I’m so sorry. I get so flipping mad at my dad but then I read these posts and start tearing up thinking how I’d miss him so bad. May you and your family find comfort in the god times before the disease. hugs

Oh gosh, I’m so so sorry. This is another caregiver secret. When they’re gone, it’s such a shock to our systems. To go from 100 to 0 in an instant. I know this will sound cliche, but give yourself some time. It all needs to be processed. I’m so sorry.
