Anyone going to the Atlantic Film Festival this year? What are you going to see?

Question

Currently trying to decide between The Promised Land and Anatomy of a Fall as they both look fantastic but their screentimes overlap on the 19th.

A lot of pseudo-intellectuals pretending to find meaning in D-tier shoestring films.

While the budget is low on many of the films there have been a few standouts over the years.

I think The Hanging Garden premiered there as an example.

You mean FIN? Or is it AIFF?

The FIN branding is no more. This is a good thing.

Really? That's good news. Renaming it was a colossal fail.

Such a good thing. I hated it.

I wish they included more horror films. I remember one year they made sure to include some really great horror films like Mandy, House that Jack built, and Climax. I made sure to have tickets to every night for those films as i love to support horror media.

Sucks they didnt keep that up the years following.

Yeah looks like there's only 2 horror movies this year? Maybe 3? I may have miscounted

The documentary lineup is looking good, I wish I had more time (and money, and babysitters).

A Quiet Girl looks like one I'll definitely see, but the site says I can watch it online from home after the 20th so I'll do that.

Stolen Time is one I want to see but it will make my heart heavy.

The Mr Dressup documentary will be wholesome and uplifting, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Yeah a few of the definitely docs look a little heavy for my current mindset. Wondering if the Mr. Dressup doc will give me the same vibes as the the Fred Rogers doc.

The two in particular I want to see are "Monster", and "About Dry Grasses". I'm a big fan of both Kore-eda and Ceylan.

Monster looks really great. I enjoyed Shoplifters but it didn't blow me away. But this one looks like something special. There's no trailer for About Dry Grasses that I've seen yet? But you're right about Ceylon. His movies are truly engaging.

I don’t need a trailer to get excited for a new Ceylon! I did see it is super long. Almost 3.5 hours I think. I wish I had more time right now to see some others too, but I think it’s likely I only fit those two in this year.
