Messi's reaction when C.Ronaldo told reporters he was injured & could not cast his vote for Ballon D'or

I feel like I'm not seeing what a lot of the people here are seeing. He laughs/smiles only when Ronaldo asks "Did you understand?" after a fairly long pause. Not when Ronaldo actually answers the question which indicates, to me, that he's not laughing at Ronaldo's answer. This is like the Pep/Ronaldo thing. I'm just not seeing what everyone else is.

People seem to be really bored lately or something.

It's just after the break so not enough real drama is happening. Wait till the CL starts again.

It looks like he laughs when he glances at the guy who asked the question, who probably was making an incredulous face after hearing such a ridiculous excuse.

But yeah, who cares? They obviously aren't going to vote for each other. And even with that extra vote, Cristiano was never going to win it.

I think it might have been the first time Messi learned about it so it took him a few seconds to realize the motive behind C.Ronaldo's excuse.

That sounds like fishing to find something that's not there. It'd be awfully convenient if he just happened to laugh at the first statement after a huge pause and after Ronaldo speaks again. I think the more simple and clear answer is that he was laughing at Ronaldo asking the interviewer if he understood. At least, that's what makes a lot more sense to me.

Nobody knows for sure except Messi himself. You may view it with your own opinion while I happen to interpret the situation in a different way. If I were in that seat, it would have probably taken me a few seconds to compute what he said as well.

Perhaps because, ironically, Ronaldo speaks much clearer and more intelligible Spanish than Messi does.

Iniesta is a monk.

I like to think he and messi are playing footsy under the table, and thats why messi laughs

When I heard of his lame ass excuse for not voting I cracked up as well. His bruised eye didn't stop him from attending a fashion event with gf? Will do anything to get that one vote.

I like how Iniesta only blinks, literally no reaction.

Your preference for Iniesta's lack of emotion lies perfectly juxtaposed with your username.

I think it's obvious he just laughed at Ronaldo's last comment. "Did you understand? long pause Good" kinda defying the journalist because his intention by asking that question was to create drama.

cough (bullshit) cough

Edit: is what I imagine Messi wanted to say/do

just copied this translation off youtube:

"the journalyst asked them why they did not vote for each other within the 3 best players. Messi said he would be stupid not to consider Cristiano within the 3 best players, but he decided to vote for Xavi, Iniesta and Aguero instead. Cristiano simply said: "I did not have the oportunity to vote, I got injured , they sent me home, so I could not vote...is it understood?" thats when messi laughs"

Awkward...

I think it could be the accent and poor spanish. "Ha no voté" (would be like saying "have not I voted" but less sensical) followed by "has entendido?" ("do you understand?"). As if the reporter might say no, but nice try.

2
nyuncat•

He didn't say "ha no voté", he said "y no voté". Portuguese and Spanish are similar enough, grammatically, that he never would have made that mistake.

my mistake, though it does sound like he's saying "no ha tenido un oportunidad..", "ha tenido un golpe," so the accent still might be the reason.

1
nyuncat•

Yeah he uses ha tenido a lot, which I think is common among the peninsular romance languages to refer to the recent past rather than using the preterite (native speakers could offer more insight?)

I just like Messi.

I wish someone would have called Ronaldo out on him being "injured" two times in a row so the Portugal vote could go to him.

Does anyone know who Iniesta voted for if he too did not vote for either Ronaldo or Messi?

Iniesta didn't vote, only national team captains voted, Iker had the Spanish vote.
