How to FE retired Event champs now?

question

So, the recent change to disallow buying chests for retired event champs after a timegate pretty much ruined my plans to FE specific retired champions (Avren, Orkira, Quillek, Torogar for me).

900 large bounty contracts in my inventory are laughing at me. Thanks CNE.

Am i correct in the following assumptions:
The only ways to get new gear for retired event champions are now:

  • Patron chests
  • Timegates for these champions (3 chests per Timegate)
  • Wild offers / shop items for real money

Did i miss something else?

Sounds right. Annoyed me too.

Patron chests. If you can complete the highest level Witchlight patron variants they give a lot of patron currency.

Yeah, i figured i would need to focus on patron adventures now.
Still really sucks, especially since the chests don't target specific champions, but only the patron available pool. So a lot of epics get "wasted" on champins i don't use.

Bought ~1000 patron chests yesterday after some high level adventures.
Still such a long way to go, i'm missing ~300 event epics.

This is true but there's a very limited pool of things to buy with the patron currency aside from chests. Quick & Quack & Coasting To The Finish variants don't have any champion restrictions aside from the patron restrictions and should be a doddle to finish once you've got a modicum of account power, that should get you a good chunk of the way there.

i went from 40+% to 98% after completing the patron variants for coasting to the finish and quick or quack.

in the meantime, unlock all the champs and raise the legendaries of your artemis formation.

You just need to make sure the retiring champion in event is full epic, or Missing 1, 2epics so you can full epic him without a lot of patron chests

Totally feel your pain. The rng on chests is frustrating especially since they offer so little in advancement beyond getting them to FE. In the end I just got all the champs to FE so when I get a new champ I can quickly FE them through the patron chests. Here's my method from the start:

  • Get Evergreens to FE
    • Open silvers until all blues
    • Open golds until all FE
  • Get Event Champs to FE
    • Open all event silvers
    • Open electrum chests until all blues
    • Triple check which patrons my target champ qualifies
      • Equip any stat feat that might qualify them
    • Open patron chests until all FE
  • Get new champ

At this stage I'm only spending chests on a new champ to get them to FE. I'm banking electrums until the event and spend 50-80 for blues and 20-40 patron chests. Good luck!!

Yeah, i got evergreens on FE and all Event champs on blue.
So im over the Gold / Electrum chest phase.

So it seems the only thing left to do is patron chests en masse.

I wasn't sure if champions that need a feat to qualify for a patron were included in their chests or not.

You're saying they are as long is the feat is equipped?

1
DeusmortisOTS•

That is what they are saying. Fairly sure I've heard this confirmed on one of the twitch streams.

AvocadoScary7974•

Yes, I asked that very question in a stream. Also, you can remove the feat if you want to narrow the pool as they only qualify when the feat is equipped.

Yes, those three ways are how CNE intended you to get Full Epic on your retired champions.

I think gate pieces are only sold as occasional wild offer filler. Old gate chests could've been purchased through cash gold chest bounties, if you were so inclined. Neither would be very efficient.

Well, maybe it's just me, but, if I were CNE, and, as you say those were the only three ways me, CNE, intended people to get champion chests, why on the earth, and knowing it was possible to get them opening a time gate during the champion event, would I let the players do it for YEARS?

And what's even funnier, then call it a "bug", yeah a bug that could be fixed in a matter of minutes and they did let it work for YEARS!

Probably it was not intended to begin with, but hours/days ago when they realized this could be done, obviously they didn't fix it for a reason... then YEARS later, they "fixed the bug" for a reason too, and well even if we don't know the reasons, we can guess it has to do with the player base they acquired during all those years (call them the "bug" years), and that once they think their player base growth enough for them, "probably" the reason to "fix the bug" now has to do, as you say at the end of your message, with money (just guesses obviously...).

I still don't get how they, with this and other moves they are taking lately, want to acquire and retain new players by, somehow, punishing them.

Or, we've experienced years of the devs being consistently slow, disorganized, and unaware of things players take for granted, which seems a more likely narrative than them targetting new players who somehow have millions of spare gems.

1
GoEvolution•

No way:

  • It's a "bug" sooooo easy to fix, like minutes to have a patch ready, really.
  • Yes obviously they know about the "bug" for years, probably before players, but if not, at the same time it was know in the wild, aka YEARS ago.
  • New players are the ones that do NOT have millions of spare gems, new player barely have any gems.

You can try to build a different narrative if you want, but you will have to be far more creative XD (and taking into account the previous information, as that's for sure).

If new players don't have gems, how were they gearing characters with 10k token chests? How are they being punished by its removal?

Yes, the intended path to upgrading are those 3 ways. The whole event/timegate thing allowing you to buy old chests was apparently an unintended bug.

I just feel dumb that i didn't know about a bug, that apparently everyone else knew about and were actively using, lol

Don't feel bad about it. I found out about it months after I started playing. The people didn't even explain it all that well until I asked one guy, who's since quit, to explain it in detail. After finding out I've only used the glitch once in the year and few months that I've been playing this game. That was because the champion was so bad that I chose to invest into Paultin instead of doing the current champion for that event. About once every 3-6 mths will mass unlock a bunch of Patron chests and level up all my champions. It's how I got them all the FE. Just be patient. It's not worth stressing over to get them all to FE. Most champions you'll never even use/use consistently. As long as your speed and trial champs ae FE'd you don't have to rush the others through Priority ChainMail. Get it. I made joke about... oh whatever. It was funny in my head.

Anyway just power through the story missions and do your weekly Patrons. When you feel you've got enough dough open up a bunch of Patron chests (keep a few coins behind for the next weeks Patron challenge).

Once you’ve cleared the patron shops of single-purchase items, you’ll be awash in patron chests, and it gets pretty easy to FE champs - deeper run variants are pretty generous with the rewards.

1
hulsmanmSteam (PC)•

Patrons will do it all by themselves. The newest Zariel Witchlight variant gives 150 epics on average. Now that one is very hard, but the ones right before it have no champ restrictions and still give tons of chests. And bigger variants will come to Xaraxys eventually, they release variant patron currency faster than the release champs because the currency goes up exponentially with zone requirement.

Don`t forget about newsletter chest codes. Got around 50 epics from them over the years.
