[2511] The Happy Film
Literary travel fiction if there is such a genre. Happy is in the tradition of Greene and Theroux- perhaps a touch of Kerouac but without the macho posturing, jazz and toilet paper rolls.
Amidst the bustling backdrop of a North Australian port, a restless traveler named Cale searches for companions for a daring expedition down the Sepik River of PNG, only to encounter an array of wayward souls — from a spiritual guru to a troubled addict — leading him to reevaluate his own quest and the meaning of connection.
My questions? How well does the story hold together ? How's its length? How’s the pacing and fluency? How strong and layered are the characters? Is the mix of humour and gravity right?
As always, thanks for your time.
