Herpes testing

I just wanted to know when the best time is to get tested for herpes, I had unprotected sex 40 days ago and thought I had open sores on my foreskin so went to the hospital clinic and they did a swab on the “open sore” I only noticed after the encounter but the tested came back negative for both hsv1 and hsv2 and before I got tested two doctor checked the sore out and said it’s completely normal and people are born with it. I haven’t had any genital herpes symptoms but feel like I’ve been exposed and have it knowing my luck. The person I was with did a full screen including herpes and tested negative after 5 weeks. Should I trust their results and is 40 enough time for herpes antibodies to show up in my blood?
