Question about visibility to ground

Question for pilots: I live in the flight path for planes descending into our small (but international) airport (BTV). Planes go over our house, then circle back and land about 10 - 15 min later. I can't guess what altitude they are at when they go over, but they are in descent. I live at 1700' elevation in a very rural area, so there are few other house lights. When I notice a plane going overhead at night, I flick my bright outdoor light 3 times and my indoor cathedral light 3 times, then I go out on my deck and watch and wave. Sometimes I get the distinct impression that the planes veer slightly so they go right over our house when I do that. The other night we thought a plane actually blinked a red light once after I flashed our lights. So, my question - is it possible that the pilot would see my little light show and veer slightly in response or is this all in my imagination?
