Understanding Meat Weights

Dumb question for smart people:

I am new to carnivore and it is recommended to eat about 2lbs a meat a day. Of course, we want to listen to our bodies and adjust from that point.

What I'm not sure about is when to weigh our meat? I can grill 2lbs of meat and after it is done cooking, it weighs much less. So do I weigh my meat before or after cooking?

I cooked a lot of meat last night. I weighed it this morning to portion my meals (I had my gallbladder removed so I'm spreading meals to help my body adapt) and I noticed the cooked meat weighs a lot less. I want to ensure I am eating enough though.

Thanks!

Generally in any cooking, weight is pre-cooked unless otherwise mentioned.

it's just meant as a rough guide for how much to buy and try to eat, to avoid undereating

it's the pre-cooked wieght

but on zerocarb carnivore that can lead to low energy and mood

OTOH That sounds like keto flu

Just like transitioning to r/keto, managing your electrolyte intake is important in the beginning.

it can be electrolytes, especially gor newbs, but it happened to ppl who had been doing very low carb, keto, for years before.

in my case, had done sub 20g, usually sub10g, for years before doing this, it was still an issue, something I had to learn.

i still get tripped up by it a bit because appetite is so low, I can coast on less but then when I have a feast, my energy bounces up and I realize I had been subtly undereating and adjust my quantities.

I've been on low carb for more years than I can count, then went keto for 2 years before going carnivore.

I never needed electrolytes for keto, nor for carnivore. My salt was merely half a teaspoon a day (and now I don't salt my meals at all).

I noticed that weakness, heart palpitations, depressive mood, was only when I underate, and that was rare.

Most of the times, instead of chugging electrolytes, people simply just need to eat more.

I would love to eat until satisfied BUT I had my gallbladder removed, so I am trying to spread my eating to 4 meals over 12 hours so as to help my body adapt to the digestion of the higher fat content. Normally, I would eat more in less meals.

Am I being too cautious here? I have diarrhea and I've developed pungent body odor. If that wasn't going on, I'd definitely eat more intuitively.

you need to eat smaller more frequent less fatty meals

Should I worry if I'm eating like 35% protein while I adapt?

nope. there is a zerocarber who had prior GI probs (UC/IBD) and he had to eat around 60% fat initially. he had more flexibility later.

ppl doing this without a gallbladder find they can eat more fatty and fewer meals gradually, I've even heard as few as two meals a day. (here, gradually means years not weeks or months) but they start in with 5 - 6 meals/snacks a day.

Imagine two people wanting to maintain weight. One is 4'11 and 95 lbs, the other is 6'7 275lbs.

If you tell them both to eat 2lbs a day, you're going to get drastically different outcomes.

Eat until you're satisfied. If you're going to do carnivore and you're hoping to lose weight, keep the cuts leaner.

If you insist to weigh, do it to know how much you're eating for you and then adjust from there after learning how much you're consuming.

There's no hard number that can apply to all humans. Numbers are relative.

Yes, same here. When I answer to people when they ask me how much I eat, I always mention precooked weight.

I haven't done the 2lbs thing when starting out nor measured anything. I just ate as much as I was hungry for.
