I just can't get a break!

Looking for Help

Hey all,

New here so I'll start by sharing some things about me. I am an iGaming Copywriter with 8 years of experience and work full time for an affiliate agency. However the last few months I have wanted to get some extra side gigs but since chatGPT became a thing I feel like my resume and experience mean nothing. I don't get callbacks or offers like I would get when I had 2-3 years of experience. I am not American or English but my Writing is at an impeccable level. Don't know what to do really. Even the idea of going full time freelance is scary at this point.

Gently, the fact that you have a full time job as a write is you 'getting a break.'

You could be unemployed and trying to get someone to hire you.

If my math is correct, it was five years ago when you had 2-3 years experience.

Multiple industries have undergone massive transitions during that five-year period. It is completely unrealistic to compare your performance in today's marketplace to that of an extinct one.

You are in an industry saturated with writers already, which also happens to be an industry that is inundated with clients who prefer ChatGPT to the real thing.

I write exclusively for the iGaming industry as well, and I'm just as busy now as I've always been. And I'm not native English, but clients don't really care about that.

The segment that AI has taken over is the low-level content. If you're a good writer and have in-depth knowledge about the industry (and preferably also allow clients to use your byline) it shouldn't be a problem to find work.

Yeah but I don't though. Could you recommend some place I could start looking at? How do you find your clients. If you don't want to share over comments then shoot me a dm.

I do my work through Upwork, but I don't really apply for jobs, as I rely on invites. And I also get a lot of clients contacting me through LinkedIn.

But if you're new to freelancing, you'll probably have to apply for jobs on Upwork until your profile is established enough to be able to rely solely on invites.

If you look at the "competition" on Upwork for iGaming content writers, it looks like there are a lot of writers, but in fact, very few of them actually know anything about the industry or how games work and all of that. So if you do, and if you emphasise that in your profile, landing jobs shouldn't be too hard. Of course, it also depends on what you charge. Clients that pay well as few and far between, but once you find them, you can usually get steady work for years.

Oh, forgot about those. I'm sorry!

Agreed! Subject matter experts will always be in demand and AI can't replace that. Not even close.

Not yet anyway...

I’ve been out of a job from July too. It’s tough as a copywriter right now.

I received your article in my email and usually I never respond but I can relate to you as I am a Freelance writer also. I understand because as an Freelance writer I applied and applied to different Freelance Article writing sites and made no money. So I had to convert my strategy to Affiliate Marketing in marketing predominately one focused lucrative product verses marketing multiple products as I had previously. Because Affiliate Marketing contrary to your perspective is over saturated and its very competitive. Anyway I discovered a lucrative product that works period and its not saturated nor competitive. Therefore, I recommend this blog as an alternative that I actually honed in because I too needed an alternative method to increase my income due to not making money as a Freelance writer. Even though I tried on different platforms like Upwork, 99 designs, Rev.com etc. Waiting on the bids to be accepted is stressful when you need money immediately which I never got. Anyway, here is a link hope this helps: https://medium.com/@netwealth818/unlocking-success-how-the-247-program-can-reshape-your-affiliate-marketing-strategy-for-greater-19f2a75692f0
