[1978] Prologue, First Chapter-- Too much flashing forward?
I would love some critique specific to story structure. This novel is historical fiction and will take place over 3-5 years. I initially opened with the first chapter here, which was critiqued for being heavy on dialogue and not setting a scene. I've taken that advice to heart and created a flash-forward prologue,
So now, my story is a flash forward, opening scene, and then a flashback/background chapter before the story picks up again where chapter 1 ended.
In my mind, it works great! But I am an untrustworthy echo chamber with my writing and should not be allowed to make executive decisions yet. (I'm working on it).
All this to say, I'd love to hear if you think this story flow makes sense. I've included a few sentences of chapter 2 just to show how the story goes backwards at that point, but am not necessarily interested in critique for that short section.
Thank you kindly!
