Out of the 21 games played this season the Sabres are 3-9-1 in games they are trailing in first. In 9/13 of these games they have been scored on before the 6 minute mark. In 8/13 games of those games they have gone down 2+ goals. Not being ready to play games is killing this team.

In contrast they are 6-1-1 when they score first.

Yep. Pretty much every NHL team is significantly better when they score first. My hope for this season was not “play average defense at the complete expense of offense” but rather “use the high flying offense to get an early goal or 2 and then hang on instead of needing to win 6-5”

I think the highlight of this post is the team giving up goals in the first few minutes of the game. Players are starting their third or fourth shift already down a goal.

That's the correct take. If right off the bat the opposing teams start with a 2-0 lead in the 5 first minutes, it's significantly hard to come back from that.

A lot of those games they are starting their first or second shift down a goal.

I go into games expecting a goal against in the first two minutes. Only if they don’t am I convinced they might win.

They're also 9-0-0 in games where they score more goals than the other team and 0-10-2 in games where they don't

That’s gotta be some kind of record

Big, if true.

FWIW this makes me question if the issue is something in their training/diet planning and less in their coaching staff. It's been a fairly consistent trend that the team has struggled with firing off even into last year. Something with how they have the team routine seems to result in massive inconsistency.

I think it's their maturity and age. They don't seem fired up to play at the start of any game, and it seems like it takes them an entire period for them to get their heads in the game.
