It's a crime the version on Spotify doesn't include it. I was just linking in another comment to a Soundcloud version that does so - here

Oh my god, I was looking for one that did, hell yeah, thanks

This does not even make sense. How did you have 5 previous "complete" playthroughs that did not see this mission? There is not even enough variance in the pre-req quests to miss it after 5 completions unless you do the same thing every time.

Arguably one of the best game missions in any game I’ve ever played. Loved it!

The story kind of peaked at the heist/flashback imo. I get that the rest of the game is the fallout of these events, but other than the very end, this part is burned into my brain

I can understand this take on a first play through. The main story itself moves FAST from there, but it's really the side quests that make the game. You discover more interactions, highs and lows, and more dialogue on subsequent playthroughs. For example, I did not know Pyramid Song was a thing until my second go round, and on my third I'm discovering I could have made a move on Panam after rescuing Saul instead of at the tower to get the train, or that Phantom Liberty Caisno Royale-esque mission... As a matter of fact, I didn't know there was a mission tied to Lizzy Wizzy whom you actually meet at some point later during Phantom Liberty making me excited for the interaction when I get to that point.

Tip: when you get a job offer from a mysterious client who wants to meet at the no-tell motel, do it before the black sapphire mission in phantom liberty.

norway_is_awesomePanam’s Chair •

In my current playthrough, I was holding off the Black Sapphire mission to do the Violence quest, but I guess there's a known issue right now where some quests don't trigger at the right time.

I did a ton of other gigs and side quests and eventually just bit the bullet and did the mission. The second I finish the mission, Violence and like 3 other quests triggered. Kinda bummed I didn't get the >!headgear!<, but I did in my first PL playthrough.

7
JuryEqual3739•

I was able to do that this go round. I think I had a similar issue to u/norway_is_awesome because I didn’t get it when I did it the first or second time

1
Zanadar•

To me it's an issue of narrative structuring. The ludonarrative dissonance of doing random side quests while you are literally dying and every hour is supposed to count, but doesn't, is what seriously damages the second half of the game.

11

V, didn't you realize that only the main story make you die? Avoid it as hell and you will live forever!

10
StrollingJhereg•

It's an issue with a lot of open world games. Always bugs me. Introducing a time sensitive threat and offering hours upon hours of distraction. Few games have done this right.

7
JuryEqual3739•

I’m 100% there with you on that. That’s why I missed so much on my first play through. It’s the same problem BG3 has too. They’re both great games, but creating a false sense of urgency makes the stories fall flat.

3
swans183•

Yesss I beat the game quickly, and didn’t get to a lot of the side content til a long time afterwards

2
SongOfChaos•

I think people miss one of the philosophical elements of the theme of the narrative when they look at it this way. This game discusses life and death, and what those things 'are' in great depth. On a first playthrough, the sense of urgency is an experience, but the way the game ends - regardless which ending - really demands you reconsider what the urgency is for. On follow on playthroughs, avoiding the main quests despite the urgency can be justified either in ideas around avoidance or ideas around fulfillment. Fully embracing V's life before the ending questlines, I think, is what the theme would say you ought to be doing, as anyone ought to be doing in their situation.

Now, there are absolutely some drawbacks to this, but I argue the ones we see in this game are more technical. For example, anyone who wanted to date the men in this game - especially the male-male interest - were kind of shafted by the way the game effectively hides them outside of the main narrative; one you can't even do side missions for until you have had like three near death experiences, and you are constantly being hounded by Embers after every thing you do. I think that was a real disservice, especially when you compare his lack of quality to the real effort made in the main quests and the love interests that sprout from it.

But for the most part, I argue, for Cyberpunk, that you are dying and doing other shit is kind of the point. Vik and Misty have the right of it from the very beginning. Pursue your leads and never give up hope, but these two are the only people actually at peace with their lives because they are content where they are. Don't stop living your life just because you've realizing you're dying.

Zbrown8468•

So you never got to bang Panam in the basilisk??

1
JuryEqual3739•

I did, first playthrough, but I didn’t realize you could start the romance while surviving the sandstorm because you have to choose specific options.

You can still start it, but it becomes when she addresses her feelings during the stealing of the basilisk

1
Tommy_Andretti•

My brudda, have you done any of the side missions? I can't believe you can call this rushed intro at the peak of the story.

Until Phantom Liberty came along. The quality of missions is so much better than the base game.

I really, really enjoyed this quest, and this part in particular. Was awesome to just be "Johnny" and rock out for a few minutes without thinking about what's to come.

It's what's making it so hard to start Nocturne in my 2.0 run. You don't want it to end.

Guys? Why not Gonks?!

34
Cybus101•

For some reason, despite knowing full well you were using the Cyberpunk slang term, I’m not used to seeing it capitalized, and thought it said Gronks.

I can definitely see Gronk enjoying rocking out.

15
Aster_Korusagi•

Gronks work just as good.

6
Gronk_the_caveman•

I did enjoy this

6

I'm on my 6th complete playthrough and I still have not done the kerry mission or this one.

21

I say go for it! It’s fun! If it isn’t come back and downvote me and tell me how wrong I was lol

38

It's not that I'm avoiding the mission. I just have never had the opportunity to play them; never found the way to start the mission. I should probably read the mission wiki to see how to start it.

The quest dependency is:

!Search and Destroy (1st talk with Hanako, escape apartment)!<

→ >!Tapeworm (Johnny takes over, goes to old hotel room in Pacifica)!<

→ >!Chippin’ In/A Cool Metal Fire (Johnny parties hard)!<

→ >!Chippin’ In (find Grayson at docks, talk at Johnny's burial site)!<

→ >!Blistering Love (drive-in movie date with Rogue)!<

→ >!Holdin' On (meet Kerry at his mansion)!<

→ >!Second Conflict (rescue Nancy from Totentanz, meet rest of Samurai at Denny's mansion)!<

→ >!A Like Supreme (Samurai reunion concert)!<

There are some intervals of up to a day between side-jobs in this chain, and so if you initiated the endgame by entering Embers, you'll never see them.

Oh my God I wish there was a way to reveal all spoilers on the official app. Half the time I end up collapsing the comment instead of revealing the spoiler and then have to start over.

20
SomeoneTradingFF:06:B5•

Nitpick: Search and Destroy does not necessarily trigger the Pacifica hotel Tapeworm stage, you could trigger it from Transmission - the first talk with Hanako does not depend on Judy/VDB questline

1

I some how came across this on my second playthrough.. I was more or less a nice V and not mean. My next playthrough will be mean, murderous, and snarky AFFFFFFFF

5
nathanissleeping•

couldve done something each time to lock yourself from getting the quests, i assume its possible to say/do something that will ultimately prevent you from doing these quests

1

I definitely locked out somehow once or twice. But one time I did the rogue movie theater mission and thought that was the last mission in that chain and went right to meet hanako. Another two times l decided to skip the rogue movie theatre mission altogether because I wasn't into it. Another time I didn't do the mission where you get johnnies gun because I want doing a playthrough compatible with pistols. I just today realized there are more missions today. Just finished the johnnie grave mission so I'm getting there.

3
the_fire_fistNever Fade Away•

How did you think after the movie theatre mission, that was the last in the chain when Johnny immediately talked about going to see Kerry. And the mission pops up in a second after that.

4
nathanissleeping•

if you want to do the secret ending, id advice you to reload just before the johnny's grave part, youll need to hit certain dialogue options to unlock it, ign has a guide on what to say
