Lol, no kidding. You'd think if they wanted to brush up on *survivaLOL* skills, they'd just head to the south side, and start jogging with headphones on.

Very few options for hike in camping in illinois.  The river to river trail is in southern illinois.  Also check out the ice age trail in Wisconsin. 

Starved rock and turkey run state parks have cool trails but are car camping.  

Looking for some camping spots within 2-3 hours of Chicago, and hoping for something that is not car camping, meaning a little walk of 3-10 miles to get to camping spot. A few friends want to try some survival camping for 1-2 days, but wanted to practice close to Chicago. Anyone have any good places?
