The first eragon

Discussion

So maybe I'm missing something, but the first eragon wasn't a rider.

The pact was formed because of the effert he and the dragon he found did. And words need to be said over eggs to make them a potential bonded dragon. Which didn't happen with the egg he found.

I see a couple posts saying that he was a rider but shouldn't he not be?

The magical rider bond was based off his natural bond with the dragon. He was the first rider because he blazed the way for the official order to rise.

That makes more sense. So his bond wouldn't have been the same as the ones that followed

counter point:

saphira gave a gedway insignia like mark to evra as an adult

who's to say that after the bond was formalised the original eragon didnt then receive a mark

New headcanon: Since the gedwey ignasia appears on whichever body part touches the dragon, OG Eragon's is on his rump because he was sitting on Bid'Daum when he got marked.

His buttocks glows like a firefly whenever he casts spells.

Elva was a baby when Saphira marked her, however I don't see why Bid'Daum couldn't have marked Eragon I at some point

Saphira was not a baby - which I think is the point they were trying to make

This is this fandom’s version of “the chicken or the egg”

I always thought the spell was only to change the condition under which the dragon would hatch. So the spell changes the natural condition of "hatch, when food is available and the environment stable" to "hatch, when you chose a person to bond with" for the egg, but doesn’t influence the bond between dragon and rider. So eventhough Bid‘Daum hatched naturally, he chose to bond with the first Eragon. So every egg not left to the riders could hatch, and if the hatchling chooses he/she could bond with a person, but an egg left to the riders couldn’t hatch and chose to not bond.

The spell over the egg is 100% to change the condition under which the dragon would hatch. However the spell that formed the dragon/rider bond was not created at the time of the first eragon, so he wasn't a rider as we know it, but it was his naturally formed bond (meaning close relationship, maybe magically enhanced we dont know) that was the basis for the creation of the spell that formed the magical bond between rider and dragon. Technically in lore there's nothing to suggest that baby dragons born in the wild now couldn't technically bond if they somehow found their match, just extraordinarily unlikely because how often is a humanoid race getting close enough to a infant wild baby dragon and not getting murdered by mommy/daddy dragon before it could touch the baby and bond?

He was a Rider but not in the modern Sense

Not really about the post but I'd love to see the story of the elves fighting the dragons and Eragon becoming the first rider in a game. Make it something like the newer God of Wars

Magic exists without ancient magic so nothing needed to be spoken for them to bond. He most likely created the first bond with a egg/dragon because the hatchling felt his presence and chose him. Remember dragons choose who they hatch for. The first Eragon probably helped put the magic of dragon riding into ancient magic language

First Eragon was basically Hiccup from HTTYD

He was, but not in the stereotypical fashion. His bond with Bid'daum was likely far different than the bond of Eragon (II) and Saphira or Murtagh and Thorn. More natural, even--
