"Playground" - Fanfic / Theorycraft

So I have a hair brained theory here that there are no new CAD's. My theory is that CAD's are kind of a limited stock thing and we are reusing or reprogramming them when users die. We know that CADs can be stripped or taken. We also don't know how the base stats are assigned but they seem to align with the user. What if CADs leave behind a spark or some essence of their previous users stats and the MIND is lining them up with new users. They are dialed down to match what the new user can handle and growth spec is based on how fast that person is capable of growing. In Rei's case what if the MIND zeroed out all of the specs of multiple CADs and combined them all into his growth spec? We know the assignment rate of his year was lower than average. This is what makes Rei such a gamble or such a big chip for the MIND to play. A last ditch effort by removing multiple potential users and betting it all on Rei.

Intriguing thought....! If that is the case then a lot of CADs will be lost as the users can get captured or blown to bits by the Archons which is a catastrophic scenario. I feel there is more to it than the MIND gambling so big on Shido to have multiple CADs dialed down and assimilated to one CAD. I think the CAD assignment and what CAD are is still a big part of the plot yet to be revealed.

We know CADs are repurposed Archon tech. If it isn't some kind of gruesome Starship's mage stuff then i'll eat a shoe. Maybe some inborn part of a Archon is harvested to make a unit and depending on the aspects of said Archon unit a CADs basestats is set. Rei just happened to be taking the exam after the MIND got its hands on a unit with the stats Rei got. Would fit very well with why Rei got assigned Shido and why the MIND over ruled his physical. He as stated, needed his guinepig.

There is definitely some limiting factor that prevents the MIND from giving out amazing CADs to everyone, otherwise Rei wouldn't be in the position he is. While it might not be direct reuse, previous CADs are 100% taken into account when "new" CADs are assigned - the MIND explicitly says it learns from how old CADS are used.

Interesting theory! It's definitely viable given the information we've received.

I really believe it was simply Rei’s motivation to push through the years of pain regarding his fibro and child abandonment that got him the opportunity. Of course his outlook and intelligence played a part too, but just as much as Central. The MIND is designed to make soldiers, behemoths to fight against Archons or spark new interest from the general masses to get new recruits/generals on the frontlines.

I’d like to think there could be a deeper meaning, like maybe Rei was always intended to have a high growth spec, but the MIND just nudged it. His Grandfather is highly ranked himself A8 iirc? That’s pretty impressive, so if Rei was never born with his fibro. He might have always been a prodigy among other users, like Aria for example or cadets from Earth.
