New Camera for Travel?

tldr: should I buy a new camera for upcoming travel, or just use my phone?

I currently have a Nikon D60 with a Nikkor 18-300mm lens. It's been a good camera, but it's showing signs of age. The limited resolution creates problems if I try to print anything over 11x14, it sucks in low light (ISO max of 1600), and it's heavy and bulky.

I occasionally, but rarely play with aperture and shutter speed. I almost always use auto focus unless it's not able to focus itself for some reason. So most of the time, it's on full auto. I love having the zoom range, I really like using a viewfinder instead of an LCD, and the optics give me reasonably good results.

But I have a couple big trips planned this year, and I've noticed recently that my wife takes photos that are nearly as good as mine on her phone. I'm willing to upgrade, but I'd like to have something that's not as heavy, performs better in low light conditions, preserves the optical range that I have now, and doesn't cost so much that I'm afraid to take it out of the house.

Is there anything out there that fits the bill? It seems like even the small mirrorless Z series cameras are about the same size (and weight) ad the D60, and I'm not sure it makes any sense for a hobbyist to get another DSLR at this point. The phone, for what it's worth, is a Galaxy S10, which I don't really want to replace.

Thanks for any suggestions!
