Mass Notification Systems

Assistance Needed

I think we've finally reached the tipping point with Finalsite / Blackboard Connect. My admin is frustrated with the timeliness of message sending, problems with the mobile app when sending messages, and some unexplained issues with the web interface for some users.

Must-have features are:

  • Reliable & quick in an emergency
  • Automated syncing/creation of contacts and lists, including grade levels, buildings, bus routes, etc.
  • Voice calls, text messages, and emails.
  • Translation for everything except voice. We need to auto-translate into Ukrainian, Spanish, Arabic, and Hindi right now, but that can change any time.
  • Attendance calls
  • Non-emergency communications (Connect calls these "o

How are you all filling record requests for email?

We use Google Vault, and I can do the searches and export mbox or pst files. That's not a problem. But what's the best way to provide these emails in a format that retains the context/threading and the attachments?

For years, I've been using Thunderbird Portable. I'd put it on a Flash drive, import the mbox files, and then give it to my records officer. He would be able to delete any messages that contained sensitive data before passing it along to the requestor. This had the advantage of being searchable, browseable, and sortable.

But later versions of Thunderbird started putting the messages in the user profile, so that doesn't work an

I have a 2024 Hybrid CRV (US version). Next month, I'm going to be taking a trip that will involve about 3 hours of driving in the US, 5 hours in Canada, and then another 1-2 hours in the US again.

I realized today that the speedometer gauge on the right only displays MPH. Is there an easy way to change the units on the numeric display in the middle the KM/H when I cross the border? I don't necessarily need to change all of the units to metric (odometer, fuel economy, temperature), but it would be nice to know how fast I'm going without constantly converting in my head.

tldr: should I buy a new camera for upcoming travel, or just use my phone?

I currently have a Nikon D60 with a Nikkor 18-300mm lens. It's been a good camera, but it's showing signs of age. The limited resolution creates problems if I try to print anything over 11x14, it sucks in low light (ISO max of 1600), and it's heavy and bulky.

I occasionally, but rarely play with aperture and shutter speed. I almost always use auto focus unless it's not able to focus itself for some reason. So most of the time, it's on full auto. I love having the zoom range, I really like using a viewfinder instead of an LCD, and the optics give me reasonably good results.

But I have a couple big trips planned t

I know this has been discussed before, but I think it's been a few years since we last went down this road.

We just installed CleverTouch boards in one of our elementary schools. We use Securly for filtering. Neither of those can be changed right now.

I was astounded to find that there's no standard practice for getting the boards to work with the filter. Even putting the cert on a USB stick and trying to install it at the board didn't work. The suggestion from the reseller was to put the boards on a guest network that does DNS filtering instead, but that's definitely a short term solution because they also recommend that the boards and the staff/student devices should be on the same netwo

If you haven't seen it yet, the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (US) posted their report, "Protecting our future: partnering to safeguard K-12 organizations from cybersecurity threats."

It might be the first time I've seen some acknowledgement that schools have unique challenges and resource limitations that make it difficult to implement cybersecurity best practices. This report is mostly written for school leaders (not IT folks), but it does outline some pretty good first steps that schools can take to improve security without being overwhelmed.

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place. I'm pretty new to video production, and it's an inherited responsibility.

I'm setting up a system for recording (and possibly) streaming school board meetings. I'm using two AviPas AV-1563 PTZ cameras along with an AV-3104ip controller. The runs from my cameras to my switch and controller are about 75 ft (cat6a and SDI). It's all connected with a managed NetGear GS316EPP switch. I set up a separate vlan for this project that only has the cameras, camera controller, video switch (ATEM SDI Extreme ISO), and laptop connected to it.

The problem that I have is that the joystick controller is very sluggish. If I pan or zoom, for example, it ta

Is anyone else seeing problems since upgrading Apple TVs to iOS 15?

We try not to use Bonjour to connect to them. The Apple TV broadcasts airplay capabilities through bluetooth low energy, and the devices can then connect using unicast over the ip network. But in some buildings, they're not able to connect since the iOS 15 upgrade.

We don't have Bonjour bridging in place, because we would really rather not forward all that broadcast traffic over the whole network. But so far, Apple hasn't been much help.

I'm just curious if others are seeing similar issues. This appears to be a much bigger problem in schools that have layer 3 switches.

I watched TWW when it aired. Then, I watched Studio 60. After a long hiatus from Sorkin, I watched all three seasons of The Newsroom before starting a rewatch of TWW in early 2017 that we stretched out over four years. Since then, I've been watching Sports Night, but we're about half way through season 2 now.

I'm not a person who continually re-watches things. So it'll be a while before I can go back to any of these. I like the smart writing, the fast pace, the attention to detail and production quality. What *other* TV should I consider after finishing SN?

Apologies if I'm missing something obvious. I upgraded my server (Debian 9) today from 10.3 to 10.6.4, and I can't seem to find the dashboard anymore.

In the web interface, the dashboard link has been replaced with the SyncPlay icon. In the user menu, I have profile, display, home, playback, subtitles, and sign out. In the hamburger menu, I have Home, the media libraries, User settings, and sign out.

When I try going directly to http://1.1.1.1:8096/web/dashboard.html, I get:
