Rockerverb or Super Crush for home studio?
Hi all!
Was wondering what people's experience and preference has been recording music (specifically, re-amping through a cab and recording with a few mics) with both the Rockerverb and the Super Crush. I just found a pretty good local deal for an RV mkIII (of course, it's still multiples of the cost of the super crush!) and was wondering if a nice 2 channel 100W amp would round up my collection, if I would regret an SC and wish for an RV when all the tracking is done, or if it's overkill to get either of these for only recording, I don't see playing live or jamming in the near future — one of those one-nerd bands.
My holdups are:
- I live in the middle of nowhere so I don't mind a super loud amp when reamping, but my ears and microphones would for sure thank me if I don't have to get extremely loud to hear the "real" amp shine through.
- I've heard sound samples of the SC and the RV and there's a lot of similarity but also, to my ear, a non-negligible bit more "body/depth" in the latter — hard to truly judge via youtube; returns are hard in my remote neck of the woods, otherwise I'd just order both and compare!
- The RV doesn't have DI, which makes it a smidgen less versatile for my preferred mode of tracking — but just like I already do with a DT I own, I can just feed it a dry signal later.
- The price, naturally, but I'm in my 30s, have a budget for Music Stuff, and really enjoying making music, so I can make it work if it's truly worth it lol
More context: I currently use a Dark Terror as well as an Engl ironball SE through an orange ppc212ob (my MO these days is to track guitars using the Engl's DI for easier monitor mixing and then reamp with the big ol cab and either amp cranked.) Started thinking about the super crush because I wanted a bit more versatility than the DT seems to provide, and I have the bass crush combo and I quite like the DI capability for tracking (I reamp later here, too, so I don't mind the maybe poor cab sim.)
