Any Halo Custom Edition fans reading this? I have compiled a 94.7 GB, 4,221-map collection of all Halo Custom Edition maps from halomaps.org as of Jan. 2, 2013. I'm using this post to ping people's interest in my sharing it.

EDIT: As promised, if someone's still checking this post, here's the update: I failed with all the free file hosts I tried, so I created a torrent. Here's the announcement.

EDIT: OK, if anyone's still checking this post or seeing it for the first time, I updated the collection (It's now 96.9 GB with 4,268 maps) and made a two-part zip file, and I'm posting the first part on MEGA. Since MEGA is capping my upload speed at under 70 KB/s, this two-part upload could take me the better part of a month, so just wait for the announcement here on r/halo assuming it gets enough upvotes. I'll probably announce it on a forum or two as well. What I will not do is make a torrent; I have slow DSL service, and I can't spare the bandwidth required for enough potential seeders to get all that data.

EDIT: Thank you for the upvotes and the good comments. With this kind of response in one of the smaller subreddits, I've decided to update and share the collection. I'll start working on updating it tomorrow. As for sharing, the least I will do will be to split it up and use a file hoster (I'm leaning towards MEGA) to host it. When it's ready, I'll make another edit here and a follow-up announcement on r/halo with a crosspost to r/gaming. So you will hear about it when it comes.

Between the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 college semesters, I had a five-week vacation. I had loved Halo, especially Custom Edition, since middle school when my family's cheap PC couldn't even render the game properly (the Master Chief was white with a black visor, the lighting was all wrong, etc., etc.). In more recent years, I had often thought about doing this, and I finally had the time, disk space, and boredom actually to do it.

Eight-plus hours a day for a little over a week were spent at halomaps.org opening 20 tabs at a time and downloading maps. On January 2, I completed the collection, and it's been sitting on my hard drive since.

The collection is stored in nine folders, each for one category. These folders contain the original zip files of the maps, some of which also contain readme files, preview images, and such. Here's what it all looks like in Windows Explorer:

Folder properties The collection's top directory Inside a subfolder Notes.txt

I extracted all these to the maps folder in my Halo Custom Edition program directory (It took another 100-plus GB to do this without deleting the archives after extraction, but I wanted to preserve the original collection). Launching the game took about 15 minutes after doing this, but I had a lot of fun exploring some of the old, obscure maps. I loved taking the Chief to diverse locations which deviate from Bungie's original style for Halo. The original Halo engine is great for this kind of thing because characters are floaty and not-too-fast and the vehicles are a lot of fun to handle. (Contrast it with the Unreal Tournament series, which also has a big map community: it's fun in its own right, but bots and players seem to be on crack. Everything moves way too fast for anyone to enjoy the exploration.) It was also very neat to be able to join any server without worrying whether I had the map.

In any case, as the title says, I'm using this post to ping people's interest in my sharing the collection. If this post gets single-digit upvotes and barely any supportive comments, I won't take the effort. I realize it's in poor reddiquette to ask for upvotes, but if the interest isn't there, why should I be bothered to share almost 100 GB of files?

On that topic, I'm also interested in a convenient, reliable, and free way to share this collection. No hosting site I found allowed a user enough space, and I'm afraid that if I create a torrent, there will be no takers, and it will be dead as soon as I give up seeding. And frankly, I could use the disk space back if I can put the collection somewhere reliable. However I do it, I will most likely update the collection beforehand. Suggestions?

TL;DR: Are you interested in having this collection? If so, what's the best way to get it to you?
