Chalazion of 7 weeks, IPL has had limited effect (so far), should I try LLLT before surgery?
I've had a stye for 7 weeks now.
For the first 4 weeks or so I just did the typical hot compresses a few times a day (with gentle massage), as well as tobradex for about a week prescribed by my eye doctor. That helped a bit. I'd say it reduced the size of the stye by maybe 20-30%.
Since then I've tried IPL , as I want to avoid surgery if possible, and there are a number of research papers that support using IPL as a treatment for styes/chalazion. I've had IPL 3 times now (the last session was yesterday). In general the main thing I've noticed with IPL is that my eyes have been secreting a lot more oils/tears. So it's obviously doing something. But in terms of reducing the size of the stye , it has only marginally reduced it. I'd say it probably reduced the size of it by maybe 20%? It's hard to tell. It's been only a day since my last session, so maybe I have to wait a bit longer.
I have also started looking into LLLT as another potential treatment to try before giving in to surgery. I guess my only concern at this point is that if IPL doesn't end up working (say in a few weeks, my stye hasn't reduced in size significantly), is there even a point in trying LLLT? It seems like these types of treatments all try to achieve the same thing , just in different ways (ie: improving meibomian gland function etc).
