Need to eliminate credit card debt before it becomes a problem so I can live again
I’m in roughly 2k of CC debt; I only have about $1000 in savings right now. I recently bought a house and it’s been about 6 months and my money hasn’t necessarily recovered. I make about $2500 a month with quarterly bonuses of roughly $2000. My mortgage is $980, bills (utilities and insurances) tally to about $440 a month. Gas and groceries is another $250. I own my vehicle outright and do my own maintenance on it so I’m saving money on that. I just really feel like I’m starting to spiral, I’ve always had 5 digit savings and I hate this feeling of being unprepared for the future. My partner and I have a $10k emergency account but we absolutely cannot it touch unless we are in dire straits so I have been operating as if it does not exist. I don’t know where to trim money from to tackle this credit card more efficiently, the only thing I can think of is to eat lesser quality food and lower the grocery bill some. I’ve already sacrificed going on any type of vacation this year, which in my opinion is a small price to pay for home ownership but working and doing nothing outside of that is starting to take a toll on my mental health. Ideally I’d like to get rid of this debt so I can start to live again but it just feels hopeless right now and I know compared to other peoples situations I don’t have it that bad but it is new to me and it’s scary. I don’t want to screw up and I feel like I am.
