Better bottle crowing than having to walk back to base/pool regen items and risking a lot less. It actually makes the game less passive.

Get someone to intercept the courier, or do it yourself.
Better yet, pick someone like Nyx who can punish spell-spammers with ease.

You have additional hp and mana that you can throw at your opponent, more action.
Also there is nothing wrong with passive games.
There is no incentive to make a play if you can just sit back and spam your nuke with unlimited mana. Controlling Runes is almost useless, unless you know the enemies don't have wards and you can gank without taking a risk of wasting time.
I agree with the OP that crowing is annoying. It is what makes Magnus a current top 1on1 mid hero. QoP is supposed to be able to outlane him with superior harass and rune control, but she can't cause of permanent Shockwave spam.

Bottle crowing has been discussed extensively before. Bottle crowing by no means will mean unlimited spam, unless you hog the courier from your sidelanes. And it does not discourage making plays since AS MID you have to make plays, not really at your own lane but at top and mid. This also makes ganking mid a bit more needed than before.
No bottle crowing could lead to more passive games as mids will be more cautious and can't really go head to head as it is a big risk and will cost a lot of mana. And it will lessen the pool of the possible mid matchups more.
Also, 2 bottle crowing mids still puts both in the same level, no adv no disadv to each. If you can out harass then go and try to, since both of you are getting the extra regen anyways, you'll chip away more and he'll need to bottle crow more frequently and more hastily.
Big surprise, bottle crow means you hog the courier from the sidelines. Big surprise, you do not make plays when every bit of harass damage is healed and when the opponent can easily stay in safe positioning and still get last hits with farm and when their mispositioning is hardly punished. No bottle crow does not lead to caution because now you can now actually do some shit instead of mutual farming.
You realize with taking out bottle crow people will also not pick those that can't sustain themselves enough on mid right?
You can bottle crow without always hogging the cou, I hate people supposing that bottle crow = courier only for mid, sidelanes go get another courier, or something close to that.
Yeah pro games really don't even get kills in mid huh? damn.. 430 vs Mushi battles before were so boring.
Also as I said, its your job as mid to make plays even in lanes not your own, you know, the sidelanes? Mid doesn't just sit at mid and farm til level 25.
EDIT: Also this is why the perception many has that "mid can't be won or lost" right now.
