The Lords of Death and Decay - Prologue [Dark Fantasy - 625 words]

I have a complete story arc plotted out but can't find a good start. I don't intend this to be a published book. It'll probably end up on a place like Royal Road in the future.

The general idea for the story line is that the setting slowly shifts from a grim dark to noble dark. It’ll mostly be writing from Decius and another MC’s PoV. The full arc will take around 3 to 4 books.

The prologue is something of a showcase for things that’ll be important down the line.

• The thirteen get spoiled pretty early. Decius is destined to become the 12th Lord of Death and Decay. He’s supposed to participate in a doomsday event. He unfortunately encounters the 6th Lord and gets his transformation restarted. He’ll pose an existential threat to the Aram peoples if his transformation is completed.

• The portals + crystals play a huge role. Kumra doesn’t destroy the crystal, instead he has it stored. >!Decius and the other 13 Lords have special souls that can open passages and reactivate portals. The crystal is ultimately inserted in the slot of a different portal. Decius is going to use it to reach the endgame location 20 years before the doomsday event. His intention is to sabotage it before he fully transforms!<

• The undead fish creature is connected to the 13 Lords. >!She has a linked soul with her twin sister. Unfortunately her sister was corrupted into the 3rd Lord. Fish creature’s soul is trapped in the 3rd Lord’s body. She can however control undead when her sister is dormant. She also halted Decius’ transformation.!<

• Kumra is pretty much Decius’ role model. Even when largely transformed into the 12th Lord he’ll try to emulate him. Decius’ family and his life in the Order of Okom are pretty much the reason why he’s a force for good.

• Fish creature has telepathic powers (hence why she speaks without moving her lips). She manipulated Decius’ mind to see her as a human woman so he wouldn’t be scared. That manipulation got imprinted into his mind. He thinks that fish creature’s human appearance is a memory of his biological mother.

Any input/suggestions/advice would be helpful.
