For context, it is this iron age type setting that used to be pretty magically advanced in the distant past. The entire world is now basically used by these eldritch beings to farm human souls. There's also this undead plague that strangely doesn't seem connected to the eldritch creatures.

Setup

The story is basically split between two parties who'll encounter each other in the final act.

Party A: Basically from an Africa-like part. They are largely ruled and enslaved by these sorcerer kings/queens serving the eldritch beings. They also created these monoliths to slow the spread of the undead plague.

  • Jovra: Inhumanly strong and resistant, he's descended from a line of kings

Obligatory "I have tried" or this thing won't post.

For context I have a overarching story that takes place over multiple novels/novellas with various MC's in the same setting. Most wil show up as supporting characters when they aren't MC's.

The stories turn grimdark/dark fantasy on its head by having good monsters and reformed bad guys try to fix the setting.

Setting

The first set of MC's are basically this partial undead guy from a doomsday prophecy and something of a mutant anti-Demon Queen. They are effectively good versions of more traditional big bads. They twist their evil powers towards good ends.

A notable point in the story is that they accidentally create their own pocket

To preface this, my story is more this action/adventure about averting this apocalyptic event while fixing the grimdark hellhole the characters live in. Though the relationship between MMC, FMC and their kids is a major part of the story in many ways.

The relationship is a bit unusual:

  • They are both basically tragic monsters who get to experience some normalcy after first meeting. A major part of their relationship is them discovering/experiencing things together.

  • They'll get hybrid children in book 2. A early portion has them discover their abilities and how to parent them. Neither of them really knows what they are doing, but the kids turn out good in the end.

  • Neither of them is

I've noticed that I haven't read any fantasy books written in the last 10 or so years. So I looked at some releases from the last 2 years.

The few books I glanced at are written in 1st person. That is a pov I simply can't slog through (I guess I'm weird that way). I'm fine with 2nd person though.

So, is anything recent written in 3rd person?

I have this entire storyline worked out from start to finish and it would easily cover multiple books.

Though I'm getting all kinds of ideas for one-shot stories that are mostly fantasy comedy/parody. For instance:

  • Isekai parody: Neckbeard guy gets transported into a Souls/Elden Ring type hellscape. He actually needs to train and get in shape to survive. The guy basically ends up becoming Conan the Barbarian.

  • Romantasy Parody: Stock romantasy FMC accidentally creates a fantasy hunk team to take down the big bad. The male characters become friends instead of fighting over her. She doesn't end up with any of them.

Anybody else experience this?

To start off, my story is more a action/adventure that turns a dark fantasy/grim dark settting on its head. Basically there's no traditional heroes around to prevent a apocalyptic event. So this task falls to good monsters, reformed bad guys and people who accidentally got drawn into this.

That being said, a major component here is the relationship between the MMC and FMC. They are in the good monster category and have to do the heavy lifting to get the protagonist faction up and running.

  • MMC: He was supposed to be the 12th of 13 creatures in the doomsday prophecy. His transformation is incomplete and the only thing delaying the end of the setting. FMC "eats" his corruption to reset

There's always events that changed the flow history. Those little special little spots in the timeline.

Describe such a event in your world:

  • What happened?

  • What was the outcome?

Try to keep it to max 500 words

I'm more of a regular in r/worldbuilding and r/fantasywriters, so I'm not really sure if this type of thread belongs here.

At any rate, I want to upload my story to Royal Road as I don't expect any of it to be to ever be published. I'm not a professional writer, but I do enjoy stories and want to share one I've created.

Story premise: The setting is initially presented as grimdark and on the verge of a apocalyptic event. Though the main arc revolves around sabotaging doomsday and rebuild/restore the setting. The setting itself is divided into various realms and lost realms that are functionally cut off from each other.

Characters: The main story has a MMC and FMC who are basicall

I've writing a story to kick off my main story arc (in a fantasy setting). Though I realize that the MC doesn't really get any resolution until 6 years later. Which is chronologically speaking 1^1/2 stories after her story.

Story

To keep it brief. The MC was orginally planned to be the sister-in-law of the initial MMC. Her goal was to find her mother in this cursed city where partial undead people are exiled to. She just wanted to live out her days with her mom there. There's a bit more to her motivations and journey, but I don't want to turn this into a wall of text.

The city is the location where the story of the original MMC starts (he's also exiled there). One of the big bads sho

Where to end my story

Question For My Story

For context, I have this short story in the works as something of a introduction before the setting goes off the rails. It gradually builds up to meeting the MMC of the main story. Also, obligatory: I have tried.

Background

The MC is a girl in a African dark fantasy setting. Her mother was recently banished to a cursed city after getting infected with a form of undeath. Her dad had died from a disease a couple of years earlier and she's expected to marry to even survive in her village.

The cursed city is under the control of a being known as the Pale Man or Rotting Man. It is a bizarre place next to something of a misty barrier that is considered the edge of their world. Though there'

I've been rewatching the series again and it got me thinking. Vault-Tec isn't known to have a nuclear arsenal of their own.

However, Vault 76 was tasked to take control of the nuclear silos in Appalachia.

My theory here is that Hank MacLean or possibly Betty Pearson contacted Vault 76 with a request to launch a nuke for them.

Any thoughts on this?

I have a complete story arc plotted out but can't find a good start. I don't intend this to be a published book. It'll probably end up on a place like Royal Road in the future.

The general idea for the story line is that the setting slowly shifts from a grim dark to noble dark. It’ll mostly be writing from Decius and another MC’s PoV. The full arc will take around 3 to 4 books.

The prologue is something of a showcase for things that’ll be important down the line.

  • The thirteen get spoiled pretty early. Decius is destined to become the 12th Lord of Death and Decay. He’s supposed to participat
