So. Fucking. Pumped.

Cody Wilson. Anarchy in action. Fucking boss.

aducknamedjoe•

Seriously. THIS is what agorism means people, not just selling baclava for bitcoins.

19
E7ernalDecline to State•

I do like baclava though. Stuff is tasty.

11
aducknamedjoe•

Haha quite. And when bought with BTC it tastes like freedom.

8
nozicky•

This is not agorism at all. It's explicitly not counter-economics because they have all of the government licenses required to do what they're doing. Konkin defined counter-economics as ""the study or practice of all peaceful human action which is forbidden by the State." As of yet, nothing Cody Wilson has done is forbidden by the state. Yes, he is doing things that will enable other people to more easily engage in agorism in the future, but what he is doing is not itself agorism.

5
aducknamedjoe•

I think in this case the difference between agorism and enabling agorism is pedantic.

Agorism also requires robust parallel institutions and with DefCad Wilson is well on the way to creating one.

12
nozicky•

I think that depends on how you view agorism. If your goal is just want to be free to do whatever you want in a sort of Jeffrey Tucker, Bourbon for Breakfast type manner, then it's purely pedantic because the benefits come from your actions whatever they are, rather than their potential illegality. In this case, it would probably be better if your action was legal as it's illegality just presents an inconvenience to you.

However, if you want to use agorism in the manner closer to what Konkin intended it to be, ie a political strategy to bring down the state, it matters quite a bit because the benefits come from disobeying the law not the action itself is what matters. Enabling people to disobey the law does matter too, but there are plenty of things that can be used for illegal activities that in practice are used almost entirely legally.

I'm just a lurker here and I have a question about this post. I understand that you guys clearly dislike government, and I love a lot of your ideas, but don't you hold to non-violence? How does gun ownership fit into that? Thanks for helping me understand.

20
Cypher_Ace•

but don't you hold to non-violence?

No, not necessarily. Most here hold to the NAP, or non-aggression principle. Which states that the initiation of force (ie violence) is wrong, but responding to force with force to defend yourself is perfectly reasonable.

I think most here cheer what DefCad has done because it eats away as the governments ability to hold a monopoly on the means of force, in this case firearms.

edit: for clarity

35
arlindohall•

That makes a lot of sense, thanks for clarifying!

9
AceRockolla4eva•

Simply the prospect of everyone having a gun is a strong incentive not to aggress.

18
Sir_VeraceAgorist•

You sir, have just stated the most difficult to understand statement for a gun-grabber. It makes perfect sense, but it's like it just fries a fuse or something in their head and any hopes of reasonable thought by them fizzles out. Statistics back up your statement too.

5
TheJucheisLoose•

Exactly. It creates a "chilling effect" against aggression. If you don't know whether or not the person you may assault may be armed with a gun, you are less likely to assault that person.

3
zerosp4c3•

I think this is a big issue with gun ownership. People are intimidated by open carry, at least I am, whether it's fear of harassment by police and others or the idea that active shooters will target people who carry first.

I think this kind of thinking is all backwards, openly showing a firearm is a big step for dissuading crime from starting in the first place. Still, even though I live in a very open carry friendly place I haven't taken that step to open carrying everywhere yet. Guess I just don't like the idea of people staring at me for something as innocent as using a firearm for self defense, I get the feeling that my community is super liberal when it comes to guns.

1
TheJucheisLoose•

It's funny, because if you wear a blue costume with a little gold-colored shield on it, nobody looks at you twice for open carrying.

1
E7ernalDecline to State•

We aren't pacifists. We recognize the right to self-defense.

14
arlindohall•

That's all my fault for misunderstanding.

3
Beetle559•

Many of us do tend to have a very strong aversion to aggression. I certainly do.

To sum up our position in a very simplified way we believe that a truly civilized society is only possible when people understand that the only laws we truly need to live by are "Don't hit, don't steal".

Most people today believe that the majority has the right to hit and steal as it sees fit, that's an ideological dead end.

5
[deleted]•

How does gun ownership fit into that?

self defense

It's not like those scanners detect firearms anyways. They've got like a 10% catch rate.

I think it was IJ or similar. I can't find the source with a simple google search anymore.

3
2DSJL562•

All you have to do is wear baggy clothing and have it not attached to your body and the naked body scanners can't detect it. At least that's how it was a few months ago when some blogger proved it. The body scanners are just there for psychological reasons, not real security reasons.

With something like this, I wonder if the barrels might be able to be made into ammo themselves? Perhaps brace them in some way (with a metal insert in the gun itself that the barrel/ammo fits into?) so they don't fail. Then they could maybe be loaded ahead of time with gun cotton, black powder, etc and a cast bullet.

In any case....this represents amazing thing to come.

I think its more at the stage where, we finally got it fully printed to fire the bullet. Now, with more people trying it out, will figure out how to make it accurate/increase capacity. I dont think once you finally print something that will actually fire, it will be perfectly accurate etc. Baby steps. :D

I'm surprised they even tried the 5.7 and not, say, a standard 9mm luger round. In all likelihood the 5.7 that they shot was operating at twice the pressure of the .380. They'd be better off proofing it with low pressure, widely available rounds like the .45 rather than making a leap to a niche cartridge like 5.7.

2
[deleted]•

[deleted]

2
WashbagMacy's•

I'd bet he didn't understand the pressure differences. 5.7 is a very small round, so they probably assumed that it would put less stress on the gun. 9mm would have been a better choice
