I've been looking at purchasing a Garand through the CMP for a while now, and am torn between getting a HRA service grade in 30.06 (Price, $625) and the CMP special grade .308 (Price, $995).

I am leaning towards the .308, simply because I already shoot .308 and don't like the idea of adding yet another caliber to the collection.

However, I understand the sentiment "If you want and M1 in .308, just get an M1A, a Garand is supposed to be 30.06!". The price point on the service grade 30.06 is also quite appealing.

So, after browsing some other forums looking for advice, I thought I'd turn to you all for any first hand experiences or advice that could help inform my purchase.

Thanks in

Taxes aren’t seized by force. They’re seized by law. There is a difference. You are totally free to renounce your United States citizenship, leave the country, and pay no American taxes. Good luck finding anyplace in the world with our standard of living without similar taxes.

What is this, I don't even

...at least as far as my beer is concerned!

There was a comment a while back concerning emphasizing the areas where we have succeeded in pushing back on State intervention in our lives. As I sit here sipping one of my homebrews (only the first of the night...) and eating dinner consisting of ingredients I grew or made myself, I am HAPPY of the ways that I have been able to remove some regulation and intervention from my life.

I brew a tremendous amount of beer. At last count, over 400 gal over the past 12 month period. Much is shared with friends, family, and co-workers, and I even get "donations" for some of it, which allows me to continue experimenting with new styles and brew more th

I see this thrown around a lot, and frankly, I don't know what anyone really means by it. For example, this article

http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2013/04/why-arent-gun-control-advocates-focusing-more-online-sales/64321/

obviously gets some things wrong when talking about one such "loophole" (online sales), as I seem to recall having to go to an FFL to pick up and had a check there...but is there really a "loophole" at gun shows?

Thanks!

I know, I know, the guy is a bit nuts, and obviously wrong. /s

But that's not good enough. Some of the things that he says can be shot down on their subjective nature (ie, he is placing a subjective value on environmental preservation), or his twisting of words (ie, really, who defines markets like that?). BUT I would love to hear others' ideas on this too!

And yes, I know Kokesh has debated these guys before, but he has seemed very nice in those interviews...

Thanks!

I have caught the bug (pardon the pun), and after thinking I was only going to start with a few oz, I now have twenty....and want more!

I would like to get some junk silver as well (90%), but am concerned, perhaps in error, about pulling the trigger on a mixed bag of junk silver. SO, what I would like to ask: Is it possible to get "shorted" on junk silver due to different coins having different weight? For example, were all 90% quarter 2.5x as heavy as all 90% dimes? When buying on face value, I could see this potentially being an issue, but I suck at math and stuff...

Thanks in advance!

Recently bought a Ruger Sr9c and have been very happy with it thus far. However, I have big-ish hands and have enjoyed the "tacky" feel of similar Hogue grips in the past. So, based upon what I read on the ruger forums, I purchased the above mentioned product from Amazon and received it in the mail today.

As I was putting it on, a small tear developed on the bottom front side of the grip. This small tear spread as I was working the grip on until it became obvious that the grip was no longer usable (read: The damn thing tore in half). I followed directions (warming it up slightly prior to putting it on, don't pull "out" any more than need be, etc), and am pretty bummed as it is ~10 bucks

I don't really have the liquid assets to jump in fully at this point in my life, but really would like to have a bit of silver around to at least keep me thinking about it and as a rainy day hedge. Plus, silver is shiny.

With that said, I really don't know where the best place to start is. Junk silver? Fractional rounds (1/10, 1/4, or 1/2 oz)? 1 oz rounds (american? canadian? private mint?)

Very open to suggestions, and thanks!

With the recent passage of the "Right to Work" legislation in Michigan, I was wondering if anyone had some insight into the inner workings of such a law, and what it means for limiting or freeing the contracts that can be made between employer and employee.

Thanks!

I was not a part of this exchange, but was reading along and found myself agreeing with the bolded poster below, who was really on his own in this thread, titled "U.$. Wealth Distribution: How do we fix it?". Then, Mr. Italics retorts with the most facepalming statement yet...it took all my willpower not to jump into the fray as well....

**Look at the places where they instituted a living wage, above the minimum wage, like San Francisco. The price of goods and services is higher and less abundant than just across the bay where they don’t have these laws. So paying people more as a minimum causes more problems. If everyone makes a higher minimum wage, there will be more demand for al

From another website. No context needed.

It’s funny how riled up some people get about paying taxes once a year...

But being FORCED to work eight, ten, fourteen hours a day AT GUNPOINT and be homeless or starve to death if you don’t comply seems to be a completely fair game.
