Does this update mean more ITEM drops, cause there little to none as far as I could see?
Items only drop when certain actions take place.
Rampage ,Aegis Deny, Ally Deny, Ultra Kill, Defeated , Triple Kill, First Blood, ,Double Kill
This just acknowledges that compendium and pennants owners have a higher chance at obtaining those items then people who don't
This means that if you have a pennant for a team you're spectating and the compendium that you'll have some increased chance of receiving an item drop.
Correct, but it also means that you don't need either of those to be eligible for it.
The wording on their compendium page and one of their guides implied item drops were exclusive to compendium owners. Sad to see that it wasn't true, though from a marketing perspective, giving items to "what is dota" spectators could possibly give them an interest in playing the game.
As long as I have an increased chance, it's fine. The courier and battle bonus is more than enough anyway.
Now all they have to do is make all new pennants. I have $5 in credit and more ready to be turned into Steambux, gimme the outlet Valve.
Negative it does not confirm that at all. It confirms that if you have compendium and a pennant you have more chance than if you only had a compendium. No where does it say you get a drop without either one.
But then how works pennant they increased chance just in game wheres ur team play or on all matches?
Thx for any answer :)
does it mean people without pennant or compendium can also get item drops? i just bought a pennant man *facepalm
Where does it say that? It just says that compendium owners and pennant owners get drops.
Not sure, in the last match of the day I didn't even see an item drop for First Blood. And all morning I only saw it for first blood and end game. Guess I didn't witness many triple kills.
35k watching.. 4 items dropped in one game :(
I remember reading from somewhere that a tournament drop was meant to be like catching the homerun ball in a baseball game. It's meant to be rare and hard to obtain.
Think of the compendium as outfield seats in our baseball game analogy, where you're more likely to catch a homerun ball. Those without the compendium are sitting behind the dugout. In both situations, you're very unlikely to catch the homerun ball, but the outfield seats still give better odds.
I have an EG pendant and got a drop from Era getting a double kill while fountain diving them. That's like being a Red Sox fan and catching a walk off homerun ball from Derek Jeter :(
Team get embarrassingly crushed? Have an item to commemorate!
sorry, the baseball analogy does nothing for me. I've never watched baseball, don't now the rules or how the stadiums are designed; but I do know what a homerun is. :)
What's so hard with giving him a football analogy?
Someone kicks the ball out of the field, the fan that catches it gets to keep it.
The field is shaped roughly like a diamond. In one corner, the batter stands and is pitched to. Inside the diamond is a smaller diamond, like a square that has been divided into quarters. Everything out of the smaller diamond is the outfield. When a home run is hit, the ball goes out of the field, into the seats behind the outfield. Since it's out of play, the fans sitting there can get the ball and keep it.
Are you European? Can I assume you know cricket? Does that make me racist?
If you were to catch a cricket ball, you'd have a better chance of doing it if you were behind the bowler than if you were behind the batsman.
Compendium viewers -> behind bowler
Regular viewers -> behind batsman
In either case, the chance you catch a ball is small, but you're more likely on one side of the field than the other.
Yeah. I got one of those balls. I felt like I won the lottery.
I think it means you have increased chance if you have a compendium and/or pennants equipped.
I feel that there should be a percentage instead of a single person that gets an item. It doesn't have to be like 50% but maybe like 0.01% of the total spectators. So if there is 1000+ it drops more. Right now, the chance of getting an item during a game is so pathetic that it makes me wonder why they are even given out. Sure you have a one of a kind item but it means absolutely nothing other that you were so lucky that you should have went to get a lottery ticket.
It would also be interesting if they weighted certain rewards just to hype people up. Like (taking a prediction from the compendium) if a tower is taken before the 2 minute mark, a large sum of items are given out. If it was based off of a percent maybe its 0.05% of spectators. This event happens so few times in competitive play that it should be celebrated.
I agree. Rather than make them ultra rare high value tradeable items, what I would really like are more common, non-tradeable items. I want the item so I can say, "I was there when ____ happened!" or have it start up chats in game when someone sees my items from inspecting me/getting killed. They certainly still need to be rare, but if by the end of the International everyone that tuned into every game, or close too, had about a 100% chance of getting 1 drop for something, that would be fine by me. (Please note I don't mean you need to tune into every game for items, just that I would like a drop rate of a high enough % to blanket the population that much). We have enough items out there now that even if there's 40000 Spectator items there's still a really small chance of you ever finding someone with the same item you got, let alone for the same play in the same game.
i like that idea!
Sure you have a one of a kind item but it means absolutely nothing other that you were so lucky that you should have went to get a lottery ticket.
Which is the entire point of these drops. Can you stop feeling so fucking entitled and get over with it?
The effect of Pennants and Compendiums are now cumulative when calculating spectator item drops.
Today we’re announcing The International Interactive Compendium, a virtual book that will keep you fully up to date with the state of The International, and allow you to play games with other fans for fun and bragging rights. In addition to making you eligible for special virtual item drops throughout the tournament, it’ll also allow you to vote on tournament-related community polls,...

Okey, English is not my main language but I had impression that Compendium is required to get in-game drops from TI3 matches, now it seems everyone can get 'em... wtf? :(
I read somewhere that it allows you to get rare and above quality drops, non-compendium players can still get common/uncommon.
But that's just a rumour, I have no source.
Who cares, the chances of getting an item are pretty fucking low either way :D
Brb making 100 smurf accounts to get more hatz and make harder to everyone to watch the game itself.
Think they should seperate the drop..
Ie. 1 drop for all.. 1 drop for compendium.. 1 drop for pennant..
If you have both pennant and compendium, you may get 3 item with incredible luck..
Do the pennants need to be for the teams playing or any pennants to get the additional chance increase?
It only counts for the team that's currently playing.
Well its a good thing I have that ehome pennant.
Confirms that you don't need the compendium to get item drops
Glad to know they fixed the ability to change your predictions. I was wondering why I was still able to change mine around.
It didn't actually change anything. As soon as you closed the Compendium it would go back to your older choices.
I changed mine. Still changed.
Same, I could change and save without problem.
From what I heard, it sounded like you could change them locally, but your predictions have long since been formally submitted. They ought to have reset back to your earlier predictions if you closed out of the compendium and went back in.
Damn it, let met change my GPM prediction before you lock it you guys
Can someone copy/paste the patch notes? Page not loading for me.

For some reason, the casual wording on this bit combined with the "several thousand spectators" part just makes me laugh. Glad to see they've fixed that.
I'm surprised it was a local issue and not a server issue on their side. Unless they just wrote that down to say they took care of it.
Well, when I was looking at it. It seemed that each time you tried to connect to watch it would try a different IP. So I feel like it was some resolution problem.
That's intended, they need multiple servers/instances to hold that amount of people
This made me laugh as well. I know alot of people were pissed off at the connection issues, but it's actually this type of quirky response to difficulties that causes me to like Valve as much as I do.
